Crosses Return To New York City’s Manhattan Center

It’s been over a decade since Chino of Deftones fame and Shaun Lopez of the band Far did a proper tour for their duo project Crosses or +++. The band finally after a decade and change returned to New York City’s famed Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom in support of the band’s latest album Goodnight, God Bless, I Love You. Delete.

 The tour is the entree to the 2023 tour appetizer which included 6 California shows and 2 Brooklyn, New York shows of which all 8 were sold out. Now fans get the full deal with their Familiar World Tour. The Big Apple came out in full force, the night was kicked off by DJ Crook who kept the crowd moving as a warm-up for Crosses. You might be familiar with Crook known also as Crookone but also from Moreno’s other project Team Sleep. 

Crosses hit the stage around 9 pm. The Ballroom’s lights dimmed and 3 Crosses illuminated the stage. Lopez took to the stage guitar in hand and set up behind a keyboard towards the back half of the stage. Chino appeared through the dim lights and fog as strobes suddenly shuttered. Chino, as dynamic and energetic as always, paced back and forth across the stage as the bass rumbled throughout. 

The duo kicked things off with “Invisible Hand.” From the pulsating bass of “This Is A Trick” to the haunting sounds of “The Epilogue,” Crosses delivered what felt like a greatest hits quality setlist despite not having a ton of albums out The show was an intense and electric performance. Fans were in a trance thanks to the pair’s unique blend of electronic, rock, and experimental sounds contrasted with Moreno’s Deftones-esque vocals. 

A highlight came midway through the set when the pair performed the live debut of “Big Youth” (feat El-P of Run The Jewels). Their chemistry was noticeable throughout the performance, which is not surprising since the pair are childhood best friends. Crosses left the audience wanting more as the night was coming to an end, the set encore included “Telepathy” and the slower final track, “Option.”  Crosses delivered a show that was nothing short of epic and well worth the wait for a full-blown tour, hopefully, we will see more Crosses in 2024 and 2025.
