Tones and I Welcomed Philly to The Madhouse at Union Transfer

Australian singer/songwriter Tones and I delivered an incredible performance at her show at Union Transfer in Philadelphia this past Saturday. This concert marked her debut performance in the city after two years of rescheduling caused by the pandemic. It served as an incredible live experience for both young and old fans and marked one of the many cross-country tour stops celebrating her latest album, “Welcome to The Madhouse.”

Supporting Tones on this show was fellow Australian artist Sam Fischer, who opened the evening with an hour set that was a perfect fit for this tour in terms of style and sound. Armed with heartfelt lyrics and even more powerful vocals, Fischer pulled in the crowd with open arms and guided attendees on a blissful, melodic journey outlined with singles such as ‘All My Loving,” “This City,” and a debut of his collab hit with Demi Lavato titled, “What People Say.” In between songs, Sam thanked the crowd warmly for being present that night and had everyone laughing with his witty, humorous quips. However, the sweetest moment of that set was with a performance of “Hopeless Romantic” with his backup vocalist and wife, Erin Caff.

As Sam closed his set and his bandmates made their way off the stage, the lights went dim. That’s when the production team sprung into action, scurrying and working quickly to set up what appeared to be a massive stage decoration in the form of a giant, brightly illuminated ‘madhouse.’ Several white strobes were set up directly in front of the stage, decorating Tones as she made her grand entrance for her performance. By this point, the crowd had massed towards the front, cheering loudly as she greeted the crowd, arms held wide. Her hour-long set shone with her bubbly stage presence and her captivating vocals.

She sang her way through fan favorites such as “Dance Monkey” and “Fly Away,” as well as endearing new tracks like “Charlie,” which she lovingly dedicated to her dog of the same name. Throughout her performance, Tones danced, jumped, and led the crowd through her music with unmatched energy, humor, and gratitude. At one point, she mentioned to the group how she started her journey as an artist as a busker in Australia, performing on the street, and never imagined that she would be playing her music in front of crowds across the country. To top it off, she promised to take a photo with fans after the show, making the most of the unfortunate logistical mishap that prevented merch from being available at the venue. However, there wasn’t an audience member there that night who wasn’t singing along with her lyrics or grooving along to the beat. As Tones sang her final notes, fans were left reveling in the almost magical experience they witnessed from this incredibly talented artist.
