One such event will be the next installment in The Jimmy-June Concert Series. We recently had an opportunity to learn more about the concert series and the upcoming event.

A celebration of the music, arts, and culture of North Carolina. Jimmy-June is a combination of the names of Jimmy Saunders and Allan “June” Parsons, grandfathers of the series founder Justin Saunders.

“I started The Jimmy-June Concert Series as a way for me to honor my grandfathers, who were such big role models for me growing up. I’ve always wanted to do something big in their names that ultimately served as a way to help my local community, whether it be through a non-profit like the Family Crisis Center or in helping local talent find their audience. It started as a one-day festival in 2019 and with time during the pandemic to think and reflect on what worked and what didn’t, I decided a recurring concert series was a better fit for our goals.”

Focused on the arts and culture of NC, the series is a way to highlight the tremendous talent here in the state. With such variety available you could imagine it could be a tremendous task trying to curate. However, with a community of musicians and a familiarity with the scene the series has had success in developing lineups that complement each other and the community at large.

“I try to keep the artists as natives to NC. I really believe in the future of the music scene, specifically in the Central part of the state. I’ve gotten to know a lot of really talented folks through the initial festival in 2019 and in hosting The Bug House, a pop-up listening room I work on in Greensboro. There’s no certain “genre” I am trying to stick to, just as long as the talent is there, and the vibe fits the venue.”

As with most things in the world Covid has had an impact on the concert series and this next event is a chance to get back on track, especially with big-time talent like Town Mountain. We could easily see a big future for the series, so what’s next?

“The future of Jimmy-June is wide open right now.  My goal is to eventually get to hosting up to 4 concerts a year and maybe have them in a few different places, like the Town Stage in Troy, Sunset Theater in Asheboro, and Carolina Theatre in Greensboro for example.  Each space kind of lends itself to a different type of music so that would also be a factor in what acts are at which shows.  Obviously, the Covid pandemic put a murky cloud over the outlook of the music industry but I think Jimmy-June Concert Series could help play a small role in helping get these bands back in front of the fans.”

So if you are yearning to get fall kicked off just right then this next event in the Jimmy-June Concert series may be just what you are looking for. Great music, wonderful vibes, and a chance to participate in an event that gives back make for a good time all around.

The next Jimmy-June Concert will be Saturday, October 2nd at Town Stage Amphitheater in Troy, NC. Doors open at 6 pm, music starts at 7 pm headlined by Town Mountain w/ special guests Emanuel Wynter and Jessie Dunks. Tickets are $20 online and a portion of all ticket and beer sales will go to directly benefit the Randolph/Montgomery County Family Crisis Center.

Photographer Josh Gooch is a North Carolina native and a graduate of Appalachian State, Josh Gooch works in education, teaching graphic design at the community college level. Photography became a passion during his college career, and remained a constant addition to the ever-present soundtrack of life. Privileged to have turned an ear to hip-hop at a young age, after developing a love of music from ‘80s radio, Josh found that the revelation of rock music in high school was what led him to really devote serious amounts of attention to music. From there it was that first club show that sparked an addiction to live music and the exposure to various forms of it during the college years, cementing a love of passion and truth in music. Now, with the ability to combine the passions of photography and music, he hopes to continue to develop a creative voice that others appreciate.
