Mr. Bungle Puts The Legend In Legendary At Wellmont Theater

Patton, Ian, and Lombardo Bring The Bungle Tunes To NJ

Mike Patton is a man known for many bands, from the legendary Faith No More to his other brain childs like Lovage, Dead Cross, Peeping Tom, Fantomas, Tomahawk, and the list goes on and on but in the fall of 2023 we are lucky enough to catch his problem child Mr. Bungle live. Accompanied by original Bungle alumni Trey Spruance and Trevor Dunn along with legendary Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and legendary drummer and Misfits drummer and former Slayer member Dave Lombardo Mr.Bungle puts the legend in legendary with this current tour.

Mr. Bungle 4-1

The tour is a big one because it marks the first Eastern North American tour in over 23 years! Of course, Bungle is out in support of their newest record 2020’s The Raging Wrath of The Easter Bunny Demo. The album is actually a re-recording of their 1986 self-released demo by the same name.

Mr. Bungle 16-1

The band kicked off their return to New Jersey’s Wellmont theater with a ferocious set with heavy thrash tracks “Grizzly Adams”, “Sudden Death”, “Hypocrites/Habla Espanol O Muere” and of course “Bungle Grind” delivering fans with a taste of the early days of the band. Patton hit the stage wearing a camo shirt and glasses to start but those quickly come off as the already high energy and charismatic performance of Patton intensifies with every song.

Bungle’s set also includes quite a few cover’s “I’m Not In Love” by 10cc, “Fuck The U.S.A” by the Exploited, and “Hell Awaits” by Slayer just to name a few. Mr. Bungle is as tight as ever with the versatile and powerful guitars driven by Scott Ian and Spruance, Lombardo’s thunderous drums accompanied by Dunn’s bass the band sounds absolutely masterful carried along with Patton’s vocal range the musical craftsmanship that makes up this band is powerful!

Mr. Bungle 13-1

The setlist is heavily drawn from The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny with the album tracks “Eracist”, “Glutton For Punishment”, “Anarchy Up Your Anus”, and “Raping Your Mind” making up about half of the songs, coupled with about 8 cover songs the big surprise of the night for die-hard fans was the band’s performance of “My Ass Is On Fire” from the 1991 self-titled debut album. It was most definitely an unforgettable moment in the show.

Mr. Bungle 1-1

The song came to an end with a hilarious nod in the form of the Pepto Bismol jingle thrown in and a guitar tone eerily similar to the sound of flatulence played by Scott Ian. Patton and company then closed out the show with a cover of Timi Yuro’s “Satan Never Sleeps” and “Territory” by the great Sepultura

Mr. Bungle 22-1

All in all the night was one that Bungle fans on the East Coast, especially the Tri-State area have been wishing for, for quite some time now. Check out the full setlist of the night below.
