Lights Brings tiLLie to St. Louis for a Tuesday Night Party

Lights brings her “Baby, I’m Back” tour to St. Louis with tiLLie for a night of sing-a-longs and dancing in support of her brand new album, PEP. While I have never seen Lights before, I am aware of her passionate fan base and catchy tunes. I did a little prep and listened to PEP a couple of days leading up to the show. This album is something new and fresh (at least to me it is). With her powerful vocals and catchy hooks, I knew we were in for an amazing night.

This was my first time at Delmar Hall which has only been around for a couple of years. It’s a “sister” venue to The Pageant which is just next door. While Delmar Hall is a bit smaller, it feels enormous inside. It’s an absolutely beautiful venue with great lighting and some of the best sound engineers in the area. I HIGHLY suggest catching a show here and as you can see from this show, they host a ton of great artists.

In support of Lights on this tour is tiLLie. Although tiLLie is a native of Atlanta, this was a bit of a homecoming show for her. Soon into her set she explained that she had some family and friends from St. Louis that were in attendance, man, did they let us know they were there with all their singing and applause. tiLLie had a lot of crowd interaction in her set, giving interesting backstories into the meanings of the songs she was playing this evening. Towards the end of her set, we had the privilege of hearing new, unreleased tracks.

It’s no secret anymore that Lights has an incredibly powerful voice, but I was genuinely blown away just seconds into the show. Backup musicians, Brodie Tavares (guitar, keyboards) and Jess Brown (drums/percussion) came out to the intro of “Prodigal Daughter” with Lights following shortly behind. There was no “hey, how is everyone?”, just right into the first verse and she grabbed everyone’s attention immediately.

It can be a bit chaotic in the photo pit, so it took me a moment to remember that just before the show I was checking Lights’ social media and reading that she had broken her foot only a few nights before. If it weren’t for seeing that (at the boot, of course) you would have never guessed she had a broken foot. That absolutely was not going to stop her from owning every inch of that stage. It was some straight-up rockstar shit.

It’s quite impressive to watch a full set with Lights as she plays multiple instruments, all while being near perfect vocally. Towards the end of the set, Lights brought tiLLie out for a duet of her new single, “Okay Okay,” a bubbly, 80s-inspired, banger.

I know we say this a lot, but, this was genuinely one of the better shows I’ve seen in years. I’m sure a lot of you can relate but it is just so nice to get back to seeing some amazing bands and shows on a consistent basis again.
