Lewis Capaldi’s Journey To His Sophomore Album Includes A Sold Out Tour

A New Album and Documentary Bring You Into Capaldi’s World More Than Ever Before

Date: April 3rd, 2023

Venue: The Anthem

Washington, DC

The journey to his sophomore album has been just that, a journey. For Lewis Capaldi there’s been a lot of pressure, mainly from himself, to create a body of work that meets or exceeds his debut album which set multiple records and truly sky-rocketed him to fame. As Capaldi says in his just-released documentary How I’m Feeling Now on Netflix, “you get your whole life to write your first album, and a year or six months to write your second.” The documentary brings you into Capaldi’s life in a way that he’s never shown until now. As fans, we know him as the Scottish funny man who found success through his powerful and emotional songs but also his outlandish and downright hilarious Instagram posts. Behind the scenes though, it’s revealed how much the pressure of this upcoming album has created while also discovering a diagnosis of tourettes. While doing a world tour before an album even releases is a bit out of the ordinary, you could argue so is Capaldi, in the best ways. While through his eyes this could be seen as a comeback tour, it’s clear that the fans have never stopped loving him. He’s touring some of his biggest venues to date and selling out nearly all of them.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing Lewis Capaldi live, we highly recommend you seize your next opportunity as Capaldi’s vocals ring even stronger in a live format and the chorus of fans makes for an incredible experience. Live music is what Capaldi loves most as he shares in his documentary and it’s very clear as he stands on stage and belts his songs each night while also providing practically a stand-up comedy set in between songs but that’s just pure and raw Capaldi. Spoiler alert though, he’s now really playing the piano you see on stage.

He takes the time to show appreciation to his fans, as many bring him signs with random requests such as “do the gritty” (which he eventually did after learning it live), or “take my BeReal” and if you’re not sure what that means… Capaldi says “you’re officially old.” He’ll even take the time to draw a random doodle for your next tattoo even though he does not recommend actually getting it tattooed.

Throughout the set you’ll be treated to some of your favorite songs, some holding true to their recorded version and some getting a new live treatment such as “Fade” which leaned more into a rock anthem-type vibe. You’ll also get the chance to hear some songs from the upcoming album. With “Forget Me” kicking everything off but also some unreleased songs such as “Wish You The Best” will be the next single released. It’s going to be an amazing song once it’s released, despite a fan yawning in the middle of it which caused Capaldi to unsuccessfully try to hold back his laughter while singing it. A memorable moment for all.

Speaking of moments you won’t forget. Closing the evening brings the biggest song of Capaldi’s and one that swept the globe in 2019 as thousands of people sing along to “Someone You Loved.” While the song is amazing live, it’s made even more special when the band stops playing and it’s just Capaldi and a room full of fans singing acapella.

His encore also includes the most recent single from his upcoming album ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’ and is also the track that inspires the name of his documentary. “How I’m Feeling Now” is a song that truly embodies the journey of mental health that Capaldi has faced over the last few years and proves the power of vulnerability in songwriting as many will relate.

As for the upcoming album, Capaldi says “I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here! Doom and gloom, a lot of shit you’ve heard before.” So it’s safe to say if you’ve loved his music so far, you’ll love this too. Perhaps even more.

Along with Lewis on this tour is Em Beihold. Each night she’s getting the crowd amped up and carving herself a spot in the hearts of fans new and old. While she’s yet to release her full-length debut album, she’s already amassed over 1 billion streams thanks to some catchy singles, her EP ‘Egg in the Backseat’ and a viral sensation of a song that you’ve probably heard with “Numb Little Bug”. While many of her songs are upbeat they pair with lyrics that focus on a variety of topics such as anxiety. The songs are a true reflection of her as she writes about her personal experiences and what she knows.

Her songwriting paired with her energetic presence on stage and a genuine love for what she does is the reason fans have fallen in love with her. She’s on tour with Lewis currently but you may have also seen her on tour in the past with acts such as King Princess or the Jonas Brothers.

Her latest single “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad” is available now and you can jam out to it now on your favorite streaming services, or you can grab a ticket to this incredible tour IF tickets are still available and experience it live!
