Sunflower Bean Celebrates New Album with Intimate In-store Performance in NYC

Sunflower Bean Treats fans to live music and signing at Rough Trade NYC

Sunflower Bean has released their fourth and most personal album to date, Mortal Primetime. To celebrate, the band invited New York City fans to an intimate in-store performance and signing event at one of the coolest record shops around, Rough Trade NYC in the heart of Rockefeller Center. Fans line up outside the doors during the band’s soundcheck, and shortly after, around 6 pm, the doors opened and fans entered Rough Trade Below, a brand new performance space for bands to come and play stripped-down shows for their die-hard fans.

Sunflower Bean took to the small stage, room lighting all smiles, as they performed the most New York City set a band could. It was intimate, no barricades, no security in the way, just a band on a 2-foot-high stage performing the songs they’ve spent years writing and getting to deliver those songs live for their friends, family, and fans in attendance. I want to take a minute to applaud the crew at Rough Trade for not only creating such a cool space, this show was the first official one in the new Below room, but also for the kind staff on hand to make the evening enjoyable.

Now back to the music, Sunflower Bean kicked off the performance with the first two singles from Mortal Primetime, “Champagne Taste” and “Nothing Romantic,” followed by the heavy thumping track “Shake”. The sound was great, and the room really made for a unique live experience with the group playing surrounded by vinyl records and music memorabilia. Overall, the band played. The set was about 30 mins long and treated fans to live debuts of multiple Mortal Primetime tracks like “There’s a Part”, “Sunshine”, and “Take Out Your Insides,” which all the new music translated great live! Getting to hear 6 out of 10 new album tracks was a cool experience for fans, especially on the album’s release day.

After Julia, Nick, and Olive met fans, signed vinyls, CDs, and even show posters for the band’s record release show on May 22nd in Brooklyn, NY, at Warsaw. Their fans will be treated to the full Sunflower Bean live experience as part of the upcoming 25-city North American Tour kicking off in the middle of May. The tour will visit cities like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Denver, and more! For a full list of tour dates, visit the band’s website HERE!
