Storms, Stratocasters, and Student Shredders: LTBRS Leesburg’s Grand Opening Hit All the Right Notes

A stormy start couldn’t stop the music as Leesburg’s Let There Be Rock School opened its doors with live bands, big giveaways, and community spirit

I pulled into the parking lot just as a storm was chasing me down. It didn’t last long, but it did enough to roll in dramatically behind me.

Milk Mountain had already kicked things off by the time I got there, playing as the storm flirted with the grand opening. Just past the front doors, there was a full snack spread waiting. Cold cuts, chips, and the promise of more deli food on the way. (Shout out to Deli South in Leesburg. I am NOT a potato salad person but wow I could eat that potato salad for breakfast, lunch and dinner)

These people know how to throw a welcome party. Front and center, leaned against the school’s exterior like it was posing for an album cover, was a brand new guitar starter kit. Stratocaster, amp, accessories, the whole nine. One lucky attendee was walking away with it by the end of the day.

We did get a touch of a downpour, prompting the kids of Milk Mountain to grab their gear and push it back under the awning, using this break as a well earned opportunity to snack. About 10 minutes later, the rain halts and the party continues.

Chalk was out for the kids and balloons danced in the breeze. The wind was still tossing everyone’s hair around, but the music kept rolling. Cars were slowing down just to wave or throw a thumbs up as they passed. Everybody loves Milk Mountain.

Two student bands from the Let There Be Rock School Frederick also took the stage. Ichabod Gas Station, fronted by a twelve-year-old with pipes way beyond her age, and Midnight Snack, led by none other than Aidan Twentey. They killed it. Every time I see these student bands, it hits me how much these schools matter. They’re building confidence, community, and actual talent from the ground up. Speaking of the Frederick location, founder and CEO Scott Maceron was on site for the grand opening and all smiles watching it unfold.

Bad weather or not, this was a solid win for the LTBRS crew. Leesburg’s got a new hub for creativity, growth, and noise in the best way. The community showed up and showed out and the LTBRS crew opened their arms. It was so heartwarming to watch children and their parents alike grin from ear to ear as they watched the bands and checked out the facility.

Last but certainly not least, one of the standout contributions to the grand opening came from a young artist named Serina, who brought the building to life with her work. She painted a massive music-themed mural on the outside wall of the shopping center and added even more color and energy to the interior with a custom piece inside. Her art feels like an extension of the music itself: loud, expressive, and impossible to ignore.

If you’re local and looking to pick up an instrument, join a band, or just want to tour the space and meet the incredible staff, do it. This place deserves your attention. Oh, and shoutout to the team for the T-shirt. Not for sale, just a thank you for showing up.

Pretty sure I’ll be wearing it until it falls apart.
