HOT HALF DOZEN 4.1.25

96 songs, albums, videos for review this week

Llegaste Tu, single, by Mitre.  I have known Mitre for years but have not heard much from him for a long time while he was focusing on his producing.  Then he comes out with a song so beautiful, so poignant, so intimate, that it simultaneously breaks your heart and makes it sing.  He is remarkable, and the song is an experience that should not be missed.  Spanish.  Stream on all major platforms.

Love is a Rose, single by Meia. Spanish-born, NYC-based singer-songwriter Meïa Santiago was Inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem The Gift, to explore love in all its facets: the passage of time, tenderness, and resilience., But she did it with bouncy, poppy, happy song that just makes you happy.  Stream on all major platforms.

Renancer, single, by Bardo.  You may know Bardo as the tall guy in the Chicano Batman band.  Renancer has echoes of Batman – a bit of tongue in cheek and a lot of great music, with Combo Chimbita and their piercing contrast between the male and female voices.  Hypnotic. It can become the background of a full, fun  day .  Spanish.  Stream on all major platforms.

Lamento (short film version), single by Gaby Moreno. Moreno creates a cinematic world that envelopes you with nostalgia, emotion, love, heartbreak.  Put on your headphones, close your eyes and get lost in the beauty of her voice and mystery of her music and the reality of global warming that has washed away her childhood home in Guatemala.  Incredible.  Spanish.  Stream on Spotify and major platforms.

Forever is a Feeling, album by Lucy Dacus.  Dacus takes you to a world that is both her interior dialogue and a universal trip through the solar system.  The counterpoint between her voice and her music on the 3 very varied songs on this album are so intimate, so intense, that you wonder if you listed again as you hit replay …and then are happy you did. Stream on Spotify and major platforms.

Until next week….
