Cosmic Storytellers: Lord Huron Transforms Merriweather

The Cosmic Selector Tour blended music, memory, and myth in an unforgettable night.

I walked into Merriweather Post Pavilion on a humid Tuesday evening with no real expectations, just excited to see and shoot Lord Huron’s Cosmic Selector Tour. But as the lights dimmed and the crowd quieted, it felt like the whole place slipped into another dimension. This wasn’t just a concert. It was a fever dream wrapped in nostalgia and neon lights.

The venue was perfect. Merriweather is this strange mix of forest and amphitheater, like it’s half-built for music and half-built for magic. The summer air clung to everything, and by the time the sun dipped behind the trees, the whole venue felt like it was holding its breath.

Waxahatchee opened the night, and I didn’t know her stuff going in, but now I’m hooked. Her voice was raw in the best way, and her songs felt like they belonged in the same world as Lord Huron’s. I’ve had both on repeat ever since.

Then the lights went black, and a glowing vintage phone booth lit up center stage. And just like that, we were in it. Lord Huron kicked things off with “Who Laughs Last,” and the whole place shifted. The air felt different. The set was moody, cinematic. Each song rolled into the next like chapters of a story: “Looking Back,” “Bag of Bones,” “Ends of the Earth,” all perfectly placed.

That phone booth stayed on stage all night, acting like a portal. Between songs, the band slipped through timelines, one moment a dusty cowboy outfit, the next a group of ghosts under neon lights. Ben Schneider, the lead singer, would step up to an old broadcaster mic between tracks, speaking like a haunted radio host. It was weird, theatrical, and so intentional. Every detail added to the story they were telling.

Then came that song, “The Night We Met.” The moment the first notes hit, the crowd went still. Someone behind me whispered, “Get ready for the tears,” and they weren’t wrong. That song just hits different live. It washed over everyone like a memory you forgot you had. You could feel everyone lost in their mind, playing out their own little montage in their head. And then it was over. With a bow, the band left the stage.

But it wasn’t over yet. TVs flickered back to life, hinting that the show wasn’t quite finished. Lord Huron returned for four more songs and closed the night with “Nothing I need”. No big finale, just a soft fade back into the woods where the night began.

Band Bio: Lord Huron

Lord Huron is a Los Angeles-based indie folk band formed in 2010 by frontman Ben Schneider. Signed to the Whispering Pines / Republic Records label, the band broke through with their 2015 record Strange Tails, which gave us the now-iconic “The Night We Met”.

Now on the Cosmic Selector Tour, the band is blending music with live-theater vibes while promoting their latest release, Time’s Blur (2025). It’s Lord Huron doing what they do best: bending time and memory into a haunting, immersive soundscape.
