Brooks & Dunn Bring The Boogie To Charlotte
Neon Moon Tour Sells Out Spectrum Center
Country music icons Brooks & Dunn brought the boogie to Charlotte, of course, I’m talking about the Boot Scootin’ kind. The duo is out on tour in support of their latest album, Neon Moon, and recently played to a capacity crowd at Spectrum Center, bringing along David Lee Murphy and Molly Tuttle for a night of country that Charlotte will never forget.
With 20 Number One hits, 2 Grammy Awards, and a host of other industry accolades, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have been topping the charts since their first single “Brand New Man” went all the way to number one way back in 1991. Since then, the duo has only gotten bigger and better. Last November, they released their latest album, Reboot II, and have been out on the Neon Moon tour in support of these iconic songs.
The country music superstars recently stopped here in Charlotte at Spectrum Center, playing to a capacity crowd that was amped up and eager for a fantastic evening of music. As fans were still filing in, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway got things started. Molly is an outstanding songwriter, weaving tales of love and life with her band Golden Highway backing her up the whole way. Her music is a great mix of bluegrass, Americana, country, and roots-rock, with her latest album City of Gold being a true showcase of her talent. Tuttle was just as appealing in a live setting with her strong yet poignant vocals soaring across the venue to an appreciative audience. If you’re unfamiliar with Molly Tuttle, she is definitely a must-add to your playlist.
Best known for his hit single, “Dust On The Bottle,” David Lee Murphy was up next. Murphy is also a stellar songwriter, and I’m thinking this could be the theme for tonight with all 3 three acts taking it to the next level musically. David Lee has written for a ton of country music stars, including Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Eric Church, as well as tonight’s main attraction, Brooks & Dunn. Murphy’s set was a treat for the ears, sounding every bit as talented as the huge stars he writes songs for. Murphy is another one to check out and add to your playlist.
After a short intermission, it was finally time for the main event, and what an event it was. There was a huge LED screen at the rear of the stage with the Brooks & Dunn logo on it. One by one, the letters would light up until “Bam!” the fireworks go off, and the entire logo is lit up with their signature longhorn skull front and center in the middle. Kicking off their set with their first single and first number one song, “Brand New Man,” Brooks & Dunn put on a master class of country jams.
Their backing band is made up of world-class musicians in their own right, and together, the lush sounds of the band filled the Spectrum Center as Kix and Ronnie took turns tracking lead vocals and harmonies throughout the night.
Tonight, we got all the hits that we expected to hear, intermixed with a few stories from the duo as the show went on. The entire arena was singing along to “Red Dirt Road” as the two let the fans take over on the chorus. Of course, the night brought along a few surprises as well. Brooks & Dunn brought out a special guest as Jason Aldean came out to play guitar and sing with the duo to “Play Something Country.” We even had a giant moon descend from above, lit up as the band performed “Neon Moon.”
What a performance! The crowd was on their feet, couples were dancing in the aisles, and everyone was having a great time. After closing out their set with the cover song “My Maria,” Brooks & Dunn returned for a two-song encore. The night just couldn’t end without everyone dancing and singing along to the song that everyone has drunk line danced to at least once or twice. Yes, I’m talking about “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” The final song was a heartfelt rendition of “Only in America,” which capped off a stellar night.
