Tim “Ripper” Owens Chats About KK’s Priest and Sermons of the Sinner

Today, KK’s Priest unleashed their brand new and highly anticipated, debut album Sermons of the Sinner upon the metal masses. The band features iconic guitarist, co-founder, and former member of Judas Priest, K.K. Downing. Ken has brought in vocalist Tim ”Ripper” Owens who as you may recall was also a member of Judas Priest once upon a time along with guitarist A.J. mills, bass guitarist Tony Newton, and drummer Sean Elg to solidify the lineup.

Sermons of the Sinner is classic heavy metal just the way it was meant to be with blistering guitars, thundering drums, heavy bass, and scorching vocals. The album is full of epic metal tunes reminiscent of the early days of Judas Priest. In fact, I would put the songs on this record up against the best Priest songs out there. It is that good. K.K. really shines in his own element here without the constraints of his former band and the result is an offering worthy of any metal gods. From the lightning pace of “Hellfire Thunderbolt” to the anthemic “Wild and Free,” K.K.’s Priest is on fire and delivers the goods throughout. Newton and Elg are rock solid and Mills seems to be a great guitar partner for K.K. while Ripper sounds better than ever. Don’t miss the magnificent song “Return of The Sentinel,” a sequel to “The Sentinel from Judas Priest’s 1984 classic album Defenders of the Faith, and a true celebration of the power and glory of heavy metal.

For those who may ask, does it sound like Judas Priest? Well, of course, it does in many ways but that is only natural since K.K. was a member for 40 years. It certainly has the same classic heavy metal feel but make no mistake about it,  this is a new band with fresh ideas and phenomenal talent. I think K.K.’s Priest will be a force to be reckoned with in the metal world for a long, long time.

We had the opportunity to chat with lead vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens and get his inside take on everything K.K.’s Priest and the new album Sermons of the Sinner. You can check out our interview below.
