Perry Richardson of Stryper Chats About the Calling On You Tour

Stryper Heads to Charlotte This Friday at Amos’ Southend

With their 1983 debut album, The Yellow and Black Attack, Stryper forever changed the face of heavy music becoming the first Christian metal band to break into the mainstream. In 1986, the band’s third record To Hell With The Devil would rocket them to the top, spawning hit singles “Calling On You” and “Honestly” with their music videos becoming some of the most requested on MTV. From heavy rockers to powerful anthems and beautiful ballads, Stryper had something that would appeal to everyone.

Fast-forward almost forty years and Stryper is still going strong, continuing to release relevant music, and selling out tour dates everywhere they go. In fact, unlike a lot of bands that simply rehash their hits from back in the day, Stryper is making what I feel is the best music of their career, including my personal favorite, 2018’s God Damn Evil. After two years off the road due to COVID, Stryper is back out on tour and is headed to Charlotte this Friday, May 13th, for a show at Amos’ Southend. Shutter 16 had the chance to catch up with bassist Perry Richardson and get the scoop on the tour and new music coming soon from Stryper.

Friday’s show in Charlotte is already sold-out, but you can still catch Stryper streaming live from their May 16 show in Nashville at the Basement East.
