New to the Airwaves – Albums Out This Week (March 10th)

Happy Music Friday! This week is a fun one. My personal calendar is a conglomerate of near every genre of music, festival, and comedy special that a decade ago I would have dreamed would be my life. The beauty of entertainment and music – I am loving every moment. In these tiny moments I get to hear new music that gets my heart revving, this weeks contenders were hard to narrow down but a few are:

6LACK “Talkback,” the infectious rhythmic rapper kicking in full effect with an anthem for rivalry, revolting, and overcoming — “Don’t let your enemies energy throw you off track!” Stephen Dawes is unhinged with “Lose My Mind,” his silken vocals of a simple beat with some dream-like lyric spaces. The song becomes the new bop for the summer if you are in need of a nostalgic track of synth pop.

“Stay Anything” by Chelsea Cutler is a tear-jerker layered song with her powerful crisp voice guiding us through levels of the day. I sense this track being on repeat. If you just can’t get out of the country mood, Sam Hunt put out “Outskirts,” and Carrie Underwood‘s “Out of That Truck,” is serving the exes a bit of crazed thoughts to all the time they cruised in the truck with their beau. These country pioneers are here for your listening needs and giving you a small dose of the superstars until you can see them in concert again.

Please spin the rest of the playlist to find super trinkets!

To wrap up this week, we’ve got some much-anticipated arrivals that have us tapping our toes, crossing our arms, and screeching, “Finally!” We’re sure you can see which ones we think you should grab and which ones we think may deserve a pass (cough). Dive in at your own risk, and let’s hear your picks!

Featured Album of the Week:

Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre

Djent masterminds Periphery are back with their latest album titled Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre. The album will be released on March 10th, 2023. The group consists of vocalist Spencer Sotelo, guitarist Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen & Mark Holcomb, and last but certainly not least drummer Matt Halpern. The band’s bassist who records on the records Adam “Nolly” Getgood reprises his duties on P5.

The guy’s released three tracks from the album over the last month or so. “Wildfire” which features a saxophone solo by the incredible Jorgen Munkeby, “Zagreus” and “Atropos” for which the band put together an insane music video that was released back on February 16th. When this review is posted, Periphery will be on a U.S. tour with Loathe and Underoath, so it’s a great opportunity to catch some new songs live! Now let’s talk about Periphery V. The album consists of 9 tracks clocking in at about 70 or so minutes and to be clear there is no lack of epic on this album with tracks ranging from 5 minutes all the way up to 12 minutes.

OTHERWISE AND MASCOT RECORDS / MASCOT LABEL GROUP

RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM GAWDZILLIONAIRE TODAY

Over Three Million Streams Counted In Front of Release

BAND PLANS LONG TOUR WITH ADELITA’S WAY

Las Vegas, NV — OTHERWISE and Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group have released the band’s new studio album titled Gawdzillionaire. The lead single “Full Disclosure” hit the rock charts with momentum, while over three million streams have been counted prior to street date. Since impact date, the song has been amongst the top three most added new tracks at Active Rock radio in the U.S.

Over the last several months, the band and Mascot Records have shared multiple recordings and music videos from Gawdzillionaire.  Amongst those presented are “Full Disclosure” (https://youtu.be/LVRHLnvBAP4), “Exit Wound” (https://youtu.be/QmmTeTGbRMM), and “Coffins” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k5dYChT8N0).

“We’re bringing some serious issues to light,” exclaims Adrian. “Everybody is going through shit—whether it be macro and socio-economic or personal with their relationships. We needed to present it all in a bigger picture. At the same time, it’s fun—which is why we came up with this Gawdzillionaire character who’s present in us and all around us. We love video games, comic books, and super villains. Who controls us from within? Who plays the game we’re a part of? Who runs the cool kids table on planet Earth? That’s the Gawdzillionaire. We slip the message in there. We’re the type of people who are not going to give up on the message, because it has been instilled in us by our immigrant parents. We’re not going to give up on fighting the good fight.”

“After all of these years, the train is still chugging,” agrees Ryan. “It felt like a release to sing about this evil character who we see in society and business. We’re pondering what this crazy thing called money does to us as humans. Sometimes, aspects of society weigh you down so much. We’re flooded with content and numbers. We’re issuing a call to say, ‘Don’t just blindly follow’. Why don’t we all wake up and things might change.”

During 2021, Otherwise assembled what would become Gawdzillionaire with producer Matt Good [Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead]. This time around, they “dialed up the attitude” and everything else for that matter.

“Honestly, we have lived every single note and each fucking lyric we’ve written,” Adrian declares. “We don’t have costumes or a gimmick. We’re just dudes on stage singing about what we’ve gone through.”

“We’ve met people who are different from their stage persona,” observes Ryan. “It’s genuine frustration with people who aren’t what they seem. This is who we are.”

“To sum it up as a former business law major-slash-minor, ‘Full Disclosure’ is a legal term, and it means what you see is what you fucking get,” grins Adrian.

“Our dad is an immigrant who became a university regent,” notes Adrian. “The crazy old pitbull used to say ‘Failure is not an option to us’ all the time like a mantra. I want to instill it in my sons. They’ll hear themselves singing it until the end of time. It’s a message for them to never give up themselves.”

OTHERWISE inspire change in the world at large. Ryan and Adrian lead the 501c3 Life By Music, which supplies music programs with instruments. The guys visit schools, initiated a partnership with Gibson Guitars, and even have created the Guitar Magic coloring book.  “Hopefully, we’re creating an empowering environment where kids get the spark like I remember when music affected my soul,” Ryan goes on. “There’s nothing like seeing that. It’s cooler than anything we’ve done. It brings back the purity.”

In the end, OTHERWISE is winning this fight.  “We have this karmic, eternal debt to our parents and our family,” Ryan leaves off. “I hope what we’re doing makes them proud. Their investment was never in vain. We’ll never give up. We believe we’re meant to be on the biggest stages. We’ll do whatever it takes. OTHERWISE is alive, and we’re kicking ass.”
