New Single Premiere: Ashlynn Malia Releases “from the moon-voice memo”

Upcoming EP navigating galaxies Out March 21st via Jullian Records

L.A.-based singer-songwriter Ashlynn Malia first started making noise via everybody’s favorite app, Tik Tok. Today she releases a haunting new single “from the moon-voice memo.” The song is raw and unfiltered, recorded on her phone’s voice memo app. Her ethereal vocals make it a stand-out and a must-listen. For Malia, it’s all about the connection with her listeners, striving to connect with the world through her songs.

Of her latest single and the new EP, Ashlynn wrote: “This song is about the times when life leaves you behind and the world seems to keep spinning without you.

What I care about most when it comes to music is connection. I write about connection and I write to connect with people. I think that’s why releasing something as vulnerable as a collection of voice memos appeals to me (and also lowkey scares the shit out of me). If I’m honest about the things that I struggle with or think about, it might make someone who stumbles across my work less alone and maybe even excited that someone else shares the same thoughts they don’t always feel safe enough to talk about.

The whole release strategy of this EP is taking a more personal route. Reaching out to my audience organically through TikToks that aren’t too ‘polished’ or perfect. More tearing down that wall between artist and consumer and inviting the people who give their time to listening to me into my mind and my process.”

Her upcoming EP navigating galaxies is a collection of these personal voice memos, brutally honest and amazingly beautiful songs held together by Ashlynn’s dreamy, yet powerful vocals. By sharing her own personal experiences, Malia’s music forges an immediate bond with her listeners, bridging the gap in human relationships and proving that music is indeed a universal language.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, she will be performing live at The Mint on March 31st opening up for Theo Kandel.

Ashlynn Malia Bio:
Los Angeles based singer songwriter Ashlynn Malia provides a portal to her inner world through the music she creates. Using songwriting as a way to understand how her own mind works, Ashlynn Malia is a multi-faceted artist with an unparalleled vocal range and a captivating stage presence. She is inspired by artists such as Lorde and FKA Twigs, and sets herself apart with her deeply personal and honest storytelling through her music. Her debut EP titled rather be alone was released on June 25, 2021. It includes “desperate,” which can be heard in an episode of The Stand on CBS as well as multiple dance films and movement visuals. It also includes her single “open,” an introspective, cinematic song about the fear of being vulnerable with others and the consequences it may bring, and “emergency,” about wanting but not needing people and being able to prioritize her own peace when it comes to relationships. All of the songs on the EP center around Malia’s personal experiences with social anxiety and human connection of all kinds. “If making those connections means enduring all the overthinking, insecurity, growing pains, abandonment, rejection, questioning of my own self-worth and blurring of my mental vision, then I’d rather be alone where I’m safe from that type of pain.”
