MAX Dazzles in Charlotte

Fall Tour Hits The Underground Charlotte

After the release of his latest single, “It’s You (feat. Keshi),” pop singer-songwriter Max Schneider, also known as MAX, hit the road again for a U.S. tour. This time out, the talented young star brought his show to Queen City with his first headline date in Charlotte at The Underground. MAX is not only a musical artist but a true veteran in the entertainment industry with a background in acting, dance, and modeling from a very young age. MAX has come a long way from his early years on Nickelodeon and has been a strong presence on the pop music scene for the last few years. After the release of Colour Vision in 2020, MAX’s latest foray was a collaboration with Keshi, keeping fans sated until the release of more music in 2023.

FUN FACT ABOUT MAX: As a child, MAX was afraid of spiders and the dark.

I have to admit that going into this experience I had never heard any music from MAX. However, I was intrigued after reading a review and seeing photos from a fellow photojournalist last year. Needless to say, I was looking forward to the show as the fans lined up outside the venue waiting for the doors to open.

Opening the show was singer-songwriter VINCINT. You may be familiar with VINCINT from his appearance on the television show The Four where he was a finalist and belted out an amazing performance of Radiohead’s “Creep.” Since then he has released an EP The Feeling and his debut full-length album There Will Be Tears along with a bunch of singles including collaborations with Tegan and Sara and Hayley Kyoko. VINCINT held a commanding presence on the stage but his voice is what truly stands out, at times moving some to tears. His performance was honest and full of emotion and I’m sure we will be seeing much more of VINCINT in the years to come.

FUN FACT ABOUT MAX: His first kiss was at the age of 12 at the movies and it was typically awkward.

After the requisite break between sets, it was finally time for MAX to make his appearance, and what an appearance it was! Normally the stage would be decorated with giant light-up letters spelling out MAX but the stage at The Underground is rather small so I think we saw part of the M and maybe the A. Either way, MAX came powering out from behind the letters opening up the show with “WASABI.” Right from the start, it was clear that MAX was an outstanding performer as he jumped, spun, and danced around the stage. The fans up front were screaming and simply could not get enough. To my surprise, we were soon treated to an outstanding version of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” and I was singing and dancing along. At this point, I was more than impressed but there was still so much more to come.

Things kept heating up as MAX brought the energy level at The Underground to an all-time high as everyone jumped up and down for “Basement Party” before slowing things down as all the young girls got “Butterflies.” Most of the setlist was super high-energy and with songs that are catchy as hell you just can’t help but move around.  When he began his new song “It’s You,” I was instantly reminded of the crooners of yesteryear as MAX’s vocals simply washed over me, enveloping me in the smooth sensations of the music. MAX’s band is also top-notch, packed full of fantastic artists that helped elevate the experience.

FUN FACT ABOUT MAX: He believes in ghosts and fully believes he had one in his house.

Before the night was over, it was dance party time again as the venue rocked to the sounds of “Mug Shot” before heading home. With absolutely zero expectations for the evening, I found myself blown away. MAX is not only a superb singer and songwriter but he is an amazing performer and consummate entertainer. If you’re looking for a fun evening, there’s no better place to be than at a MAX show.
