Everclear Rocks Kannapolis

The town of Kannapolis in North Carolina has been putting on a summer concert series almost every Saturday this summer. To end the summer with a bang, Everclear performed the final summer concert series at Village Lake Park. As part of the 30th year anniversary, the supporting acts were Fastball and The Nixons. Shutter 16 Magazine was there to catch the fun, which is the second show we covered this summer. The first one was in Greenville, SC at Cowboy up (review here). While the setlist was very similar to the first show we covered, it was quite a different experience. Not to repeat what the 30th Anniversary Tour is all about, here are the main observations from the evening.

1) The summertime rain – There isn’t anything like the humidity levels in the South that bring on that late afternoon or early evening rain shower. And on August 6, the rain came down. Unfortunately, that meant that a lot of people that would have shown up for this free outdoor concert decided to just keep dry and stay home. Fortunately, by the time Everclear took the stage, the rain had completely stopped.

2) The summertime rain – Not to repeat myself here, but because a lot of folks stayed home, there was plenty of room at the front of the stage to enjoy the full show without people pushing and shoving for the best spot. This evening everywhere was a great spot to see the three bands give their best.

3) Broken fingers – Lead singer of The Nixons, Zac Maloy, recently broke some bones in his guitar playing hand. While he had a small black splint/cast over his hand, it didn’t keep him from rocking out the set with his fellow bandmates. Unfortunately, it did get in the way of him being able to play guitar, like in prior shows.

4) Lawn chairs – Because it was a summer concert series event, the local patrons are used to sitting down in lawn chairs for the concert of the evening. For those that stuck it out in the rain, this show seemed to be no different. While The Nixons and Fastball performed, there were plenty of folks sitting down in their lawn chairs, although rock n’ roll was blasting through the front stage speakers. By the time Everclear went on, the rain had stopped, and most of the people in the front were standing for the rock concert.

5) Stage Lighting – For an outdoor stage amphitheater in a growing town, the lighting on stage was quite impressive!

6) Everclear – What more is there to say? Everclear is out performing in support of the 30thanniversary of The World of Noise. While the band members are different than 30 years ago, the current lineup has been in Everclear longer than any former iteration. This group has fun on stage and you can tell they all enjoy performing for the fans, old and new. Next time Everclear hits your town, go to a show and rock out to your favorite Everclear tunes!
