Blu DeTiger Brings DeTOUR to DC

“Elevator” goes up to the top of her Spotify Wrapped Chart

The live music we’ve seen post-pandemic lockdown seems more intense than before, possibly because of the volume of rebooked tours, separation anxiety in fans, and venues desperate to open their doors.  Add to that the sheer volume of music written during the pandemic that has yet to be shared with the world.   It’s no different with Blu DeTiger, who released her debut album, How did we Get Here? mid-2021, with songs reminding us how life was before the world knew about masks, social distancing, and rapid tests.

As a female lead singer and bassist, Blu adds uniqueness to her raw talent as an artist. During the pandemic, she turned to social media and posted Bass covers of popular songs, gaining a large following on TikTok in the process.  She also caught the attention of major brands, working with Fender on their Player Plus campaign, and was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list and honored with the music cover shot.  She’s back on the road again for a second time post-lockdown. Blu appeared with Tiffany Day and JDM Global on her Blu DETOUR and stopped into the 9:30 Club earlier this week, with only a few nights left before wrapping it up.

Blu DeTiger kicked off the night with two melodic singles from this year — “Crash Course” and “Hot Crush Lover” — before going into some work off her earlier album.  The fans shifted from grooving with her catchy basslines to raging excitement as Blu moved closer to them, jamming out with her feet at the edge of the stage, and at some points in the night, jumping into the pit and moving within arm’s reach.  The night turned into an early 2000s dance party for a moment when the band melded a trio of covers; “Style” by Taylor Swift, “Glamorous” by Fergie, and “Electric Feel” by MGMT. To end the show, the Bass Queen hit her stride in an encore performance of her breakout hit “Vintage.”  She effortlessly grooved through the song, embracing the moment, and looked as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

Support for the tour included Canadian-born, LA-transplant Tiffany Day.  Tiffany joined Blu DeTiger for the entire tour, after she completed her own tour earlier this year, and supported major act Surfaces last year. She kept it real on stage, dedicating one song to an ex who can’t handle spicy food.  Her new single, “Dreams Abt Optimism,” is out now and streaming on all major platforms.

Opening the night was JDM Global; the solo project from Josh Mehling, who joined Blu and Tiffany for the last leg of the tour.  Once known as part of the duo ‘Toast’ with Claud, Mehling has released a handful of singles in the post-lockdown years, and closed his set with his debut track as a solo artist “Cake.” You can hear more on his Go Easy EP, out now.

Blu revealed to the crowd that her latest hit “Elevator” made it on her Spotify Warped chart, and rightfully so.  You can join her by listening here or on your choice of other music streaming platforms.  Another handful of singles has been released this year, out on Capitol Records.  See her close out her fall tour at a hometown Webster Hall show in NYC on 12/3!
