Baroness at The World Famous Milestone Club

A time to celebrate with Baroness

In support of, well… everything they have ever done, Baroness hit the road this past Fall. The band crafted a unique tour as the only act performing and revisiting venues they played in their early days of touring while also allowing fans to vote for their top ten songs to be played at their stop. Baroness completed the first leg of this tour as 2021 wrapped with plans to resume in January of 2022.

It was going to be an epic beginning to the new year for the band and their fans. Unfortunately once again, Covid-19 cases curved up with a post-holiday surge, and fans looking forward to Baroness visiting their towns were met with a curveball as the dates were rescheduled. Here in Charlotte North Carolina, our January date at The Milestone Club was pushed back to March of 2022. Yes, you read that correctly. Baroness at The World Famous Milestone Club. A Charlotte treasure, the small room with big sound sold out quickly and as March finally arrived the excitement for the unique set of fan favorites and more was upon us.

An unexpected cold snap brought us below freezing temps this night as the line to enter the building filled early on and remained steady but moving. That little stint outside was enough to grab everyone’s attention and if it worked for everyone as it did for me it brought them into the show with a heightened sense, awake and ready for the set.

Beyond the cold weather perhaps the coolest part of the evening was the fact that seemingly everyone in attendance was sincerely a fan of Baroness. I mean, that was kind of the point of this show. The crowd was glued to the stage as Baroness progressed from the winning fan favorites to a short acoustic set and then to the rest of the set which in my opinion was comprised of just as many fan favorites as the “fan votes”. That was the beauty of this night. No matter your particular favorite era of Baroness you were assured to hear from it all.

This night was just the second night back on this leg of the tour, and if it was any indication of what fans can expect as Baroness comes to their town, then they as we did have something special to look forward to. As the band continues on I have no doubt that they and the fans at each stop will continue to revel in the mutual appreciation that each gave this night at The Milestone.

Photographer Josh Gooch is a North Carolina native and a graduate of Appalachian State, Josh Gooch works in education, teaching graphic design at the community college level. Photography became a passion during his college career, and remained a constant addition to the ever-present soundtrack of life. Privileged to have turned an ear to hip-hop at a young age, after developing a love of music from ‘80s radio, Josh found that the revelation of rock music in high school was what led him to really devote serious amounts of attention to music. From there it was that first club show that sparked an addiction to live music and the exposure to various forms of it during the college years, cementing a love of passion and truth in music. Now, with the ability to combine the passions of photography and music, he hopes to continue to develop a creative voice that others appreciate.
