A Night of Luzcid Dreams in DC

Luzcid Brings on Local Acts to support Illusions Tour

The Illusions Tour continued through Washington, DC last night, as Luzcid played a late show at Union Stage, down in the Wharf area of the Nation’s Capital.  Luzcid, the solo project of Neil Berry, is a multi-genre electronic DJ/Producer, embarking on the second leg of his Illusions Tour, with support from a number of local electronic acts.

The Oklahoma City-based Producer has collaborated with Bassnectar, Glitch Mob, and a handful of other electronic acts, and is about to release a second Illusions EP in a little under a week.  The entire tour includes local opening electronic acts, which were selected through a contest that ended earlier this January.  Luzcid explained in an interview with The Electric Hawk that he had benefited from a similar contest, and has paid it forward for many of these up-and-coming acts.

The night started around 10:30 with bass/trap/dubstep sounds from Masta Plan. It’s his second show at Union Stage in the recent past, having opened for Champagne Drip at Union Stage in Late 2021.  His take on Doja by Central Cee fired up the audience and got the crowd ready for the rest of the night.

Bemah was next on the bill; a half-time/Leftfield Bass artist based out of Baltimore, MD. He was joined on the stage by the final support act Sharrol Kelby (who is both a friend and past collaborator) to close out the opening support. Sharrol Kelby is a Virginia-based artist and support contest winner who describes his sound as a mix of experimental hip-hop, halftime/future beats, and dubstep.  The two sets included a healthy dose of 90s hip-hop samples, including Jay-Z, Biggie, Rage Against the Machine, and more.

Luzcid entered the stage dawning a shirt featuring a Blue-haired Super Saiyan, which foreshadowed his energy level throughout the set.  His dynamic performance melded groovy basslines, heavy dubstep, and everything in between.  Coupled with the performance were mind-altering 3D visuals which seemed to jump off of the screen, created by visual artist Ralph Jawn.  These visuals, combined with the professional lighting setup at Union Stage, helped turn the concert into a full-blown audio/visual performance.   Luzcid’s set was filled with energy through the bitter end, where die-hards in the crowd stayed till early morning the next day.

The tour stops in Boise, ID next, before heading across the US, ending May 15 in New Orleans.  Be sure to catch this impressive show in your local area here.  Be on the lookout for the Illusions EP Pt. 2 EP, out March 10 on WAKAAN.  Go listen to ‘Mic Check’ by Masta Plan, or the ‘Back For Mo’ EP by Sharrol Kelby and Bemah, out now on all major streaming platforms.
