The Kills Return To NYC In Celebration of No Wow’s Deluxe Reissue
The Kills Live At Brooklyn Steel
The Kills have now completed 4 headlining gigs, 2 on the East Coast and 2 on the West Coast along with a gallery exhibition at the world-famous Morrison Hotel Gallery and an opening slot for Mr. Jack White sprinkled in.
Alison Mosshart and Jamie Roberts better known to us all as The Kills are celebrating the 17th Anniversary and the Deluxe reissue double album of their 2005 sophomore album No Wow which was released on June 3rd by Domino Records.
The East coast shows took place June 10th and June 11th at Brooklyn Steel in NYC. We attended the latter. Aside from their date opening for Jack White earlier in the month, these were the band’s first headlining shows since 2019. I can say with complete certainty Mosshart and Roberts haven’t missed a beat.
From the moment the house lights went off and those stage lights came on it was rock n roll at its finest. Mosshart even took a moment to capture the packed Brooklyn crowd with her own camera. Mosshart wore a leather jacket with New York City bright and proud on the sleeve along with the date February 14th, 2002.
The band sounded as good as ever. They also join the growing list of bands that I’ve seen recently where you can just see the absolute joy and appreciation they have for being back on stage again. The Kills returned to the stage Saturday night June 11th with their signature grit and undeniable chemistry that’s just completely and utterly electrifying to watch live.
I can’t think of any other live duo who brings so much passion, symmetry, and raw emotion to a live performance as Alison Mosshart and Jamie Roberts.
The evening’s setlist gave the NYC audience a large number of tracks from No Wow, but the group didn’t stop there as they busted out a variety of material from their other records. Songs like “Black Balloon,” “Heart of A Dog,” “Kissy Kissy,” “Fried My Little Brains,” and “Sour Cherry.”
The Kills delivered a hard-hitting, sweaty, blood-pumping, guitar-smashing 19-song set that echoed across New York’s five boroughs. Hopefully, the band has new music and a full U.S tour up their sleeve next. For now, these Los Angeles and NYC shows with have to hold us over. Check out the full setlist from the night below!
