Knotfest 2022 – What a year to be alive and kicking it at a show!
The all unfamiliar territory of let’s rock out – but still keep your distance.
When heavy metal elite Slipknot comes to town, all that weird stress of the past two years fades into a cloud of massive guitar swells, guttural screams, and carnage. The sea of fans ranging from the youngest around 18 months and the eldest, well, grandpa, has some badass taste! The cult-ish following the band has grown over its mesmerizing 23 years as a collective is almost my favorite part of attending Knotfest.
The band announced a while back their new album should be released soon (end of summer-ish) but has touted their shine for being lazy and has held up the mixing. Currently out, though, and the first new music by the band in two years is the single “The Chapeltown Rag” from the upcoming album.
3 things we are sure of about the new album:
There will be an anthemic dark ballad (or 3)
Variety in stylings and guest singers are to be solid
It will have an MGK diss
The tour itself is a sight to see; they describe it as:
Slipknot’s own self-curated, destination festival brand, currently held in four international locations; the US, Japan, Mexico, Finland, Germany, Colombia and Brazil. Designed as an immersive, unforgettable, ‘dark carnival experience’, the event invites you into Slipknot’s apocalyptic underworld where stunning visuals, fire breathers and nightmarish creatures on stilts set the stage for an intoxicating and memorable weekend of live music.
Not one word is a lie! From the massive stage production including mass amounts of pyro, you are thrown into a whole other world when you step into the venue. The smells, sights, and anticipation of the show are about to happen. The adrenaline during an always vast dense circle pit opens up to the shrieks of the rabid fans. From the first song to the last, the energy never dips. There are non-stop circle pits and people crowd surfing from the second the first guitar lick is strummed.
The set itself is extensive and hits on all the greatest hits and culminates with a 3 song encore – not many shows are so blessed!
You dance, sing, wait until you are on your long mile plus hike back to your vehicle to collapse in your seat and reflect on the monumental memory you just made with 30,000 other strangers. You are now a part of the Slipknot culture. You are already planning your next Slipknot concert. Hopefully, you will get your fingers ready to pre-order the album and get another set of tickets to another leg of the tour.
You only live once, right??
