The Millennium Tour Hits the Right Notes

From the moment the lights dimmed at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC, the Millennium Tour delivered waves of early 2000s nostalgia that had the crowd on their feet all night long. Literally all night long because the line up is crazy! The Black Promoter’s Collective curated an amazing night of headlining artists like Trey Songz, Omarion, and Bow Wow, mixed in with Plies, Boosie, and special guest Rick Ross. What else would we expect from a coalition known to produce hundreds of culturally relevant concerts & tours across the country every year?  Fans were treated to hit after hit, each performance stirring up memories for some of us and a good time for us all.  Whether you bought your ticket for the classics or the vibes, this tour shows that the Millennium era still knows how to party.

BDOT

Comedian and Radio Personality B Daht and Power 98 FM Crew kicked off the show, which was dope because I like seeing the local radio stations come through and support the shows. Those bammas were heavy in the pit,  enjoying themselves and the show with the rest of the fans. 

  DJ Jus got things moving, the OG “Scream Tour” DJ, and that person you go, “Did we go to high school together?” because you recognize him since this dude was a child actor that was EVERYWHERE for a hot minute as well. 

NIVEA

  Ladies first, naturally so Nivea hit center stage marble multi-colored marble print bodysuit, giving big throwback energy. She performed her breakout hit  “Don’t Mess With My Man,” and I was pleasantly surprised how many of the younger crowd were singing the lyrics with me. 

YING YANG TWINZ

   This show was stacked with artists, so I appreciated the fact that the production team kept things moving quickly. It was only a quick intermission before the Ying Yang Twins were up.  The mood definitely shifted into party mode. How could it not? As soon as the beat dropped for “Whistle While You Twerk,” it was a wrap! They got us shaking with them all: “Wait,” “Salt Shaker,” and “Get Low.”

This was when a lot of cute hairstyles in the crowd met their match early because folk were dancing hard like they weren’t mad acts left. 

RSVP

So Ray J missed his flight and became the running joke during the RSVP set. RSVP, if you didn’t know, is the group made up of Ray J, Bobby V, Pleasure P, and Sammie. They held it down and played through Ray J’s “Sexy Can I” before moving into their own songs like Bobby V’s “Slow Down.” Bobby V was passing out roses to the crowd, straight lover-boy mode.  I enjoyed their chemistry, and the Ray J jokes were plentiful, though,h as Sammie  reminded the crowd,

RICK ROSS

Next, the biggest boss that you’ve seen thus far, Rick Ross, strolled onto the stage, cool as hell. He did a medley of tracks like “Maybach Music” and even Tony Montana’s “Pop That.” He stopped his set short to feature “The future of Maybach Music,” his artist, Nino Breeze, which was dope. 

PLIES

   Plies was next, and y’all, I love me some Plies. His set was energetic; he did his hits, of course, like “She Is My Rock,” but he also did karaoke with the crowd, singing Usher’s “Superstar,” which had the crowd singing at full volume. 

BOOSIE

    Boosie was just having a good time, y’all. Like, he and Plies? Great energy; it was hard not to enjoy their sets because they looked like THEY were enjoying themselves so much. “Wipe Me Down” had everyone sweating again, but this bamma ended his with a quick karaoke to Keisha Cole’s “Love” and again the arena was with it. 

BOW. WOW

  DJ Jus didn’t waste any time; he hopped on stage and introduced Bow Bow. First of all, Bow Wow moves on stage. Between “Bounce With Me,”  “Let Me Hold You,” and even “Like You,” his joint with Ciara, he rocked the entire stage, complete with pyrotechnics and a laser show that was pretty fire, pun intended. 

OMARION

   Omarion‘s set was very much the same.  He wasn’t playing around with y’all. He had the dancers, the choreography, the outfit change, he wasn’t losing his breath while dancing, you were getting every one of them notes! I loved the B2K Mashup, and as long as he did a piece of “Touch,” I was happy. 

TREY SONGZ

    The night ended with Mr. Steal Your Girl, Trey Songz. The ladies were losing it as he performed“Can’t Help But Wait,” “Say Ahh,” and “Bottoms Up.” Ray J even showed up finally during Trey’s set and sang “One Wish,” so the crowd actually got to see everyone. Trey wrapped it up with“I Don’t Wanna Leave” acapella as he descended beneath the stage, a fitting exit for a wonderful show and tour from the Black Promoter’s Collective!
