Not Your Father’s Country Band: Ole 60 Rocks a Sold-Out Crowd in the Queen City

Outta My Way Tour: Smoke, lights, and Southern soul fuel an unforgettable night.

Ole 60(12)

The Fillmore was buzzing on Thursday night as Ole 60 brought their Outta My Way Tour to a completely sold-out Charlotte crowd. The Kentucky-bred six-piece, currently in the thick of their extensive headlining tour has been turning heads nationwide, and it’s easy to see why.

Led by frontman Jacob Ty Young, the band has been making serious waves since the release of their 2023 debut EP three twenty-four, followed by another, Songs About You, in late 2024. Referring to themselves as “Not your father’s country band,” Ole 60 has been steadily rising to fame in the modern country-rock world, with sold out shows stacking up and a fanbase growing larger, and louder by the day. These boys put on one hell of a show. I had the pleasure of seeing them at their sold-out stop at The Ritz Raleigh back in February, and I was excited for a second round, especially from behind the lens this time.

Packed shoulder-to-shoulder, the room swarmed with anticipation long before the lights went down. Concert goers of all ages filled the venue, proving Ole 60’s sound resonates with folks across the board – gritty enough for the rockers, but with country roots deep enough to move anyone in a pair of cowboy boots – and there were lots of cowboy boots.

Rob Langdon(23)

As the lights dimmed, Young Dolph’s “On the River” blasted through the monitors, and the sea of boots and trucker hats erupted as the entire room chanted along.

Moments later, Rob Langdon, hailing from Florida with Appalachian roots in Boone, took the stage, clutching two Busch Lights and grinning as his band launched into an instrumental cover of Rage Against The Machine’s “Bombtrack.” The crowd was already hooked as the band seamlessly transitioned into Langdon’s own single, “Tattoos.”

Langdon kept the energy high, surprising the room with a cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” instantly grabbing the attention of every elder emo kid in the building.

From start to finish, Rob and his crew delivered a fiery, energetic set that hyped up the crowd and set the tone perfectly for the night ahead.

Ole 60(43)

After some downtime between sets that included a Shania Twain singalong, the lights dimmed once more and the unmistakable riff of Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” echoed through the house, signaling that the wait was over.

Ole 60(8)

As the lights hit, Ole 60 made their big entrance. Bassist Colby Clark smashed two Miller Lites together Stone-Cold Steve Austin-style, and the crowd roared in approval.

Ole 60(6)

Without missing a beat, the band launched into “Dust 2 Dust,” kicking off the set with raw, unrelenting energy before easing into the haunting, heartfelt “Brother Joe.”

Ole 60(5)

From the jump, Young and his crew commanded the stage with the kind of conviction that only comes from experience, real stories and real emotion. Ole 60’s sound is rooted in Southern tradition but built for modern ears. Heavy-hitting riffs paired with vulnerable lyrics, and a stage presence that refused to let up.

Ole 60(27)

They moved effortlessly through a setlist comprised of both their EP’s, with a few covers peppered into the mix. The crowd stayed locked in with every note. Slower, more emotional cuts like “Insane” and a new, unreleased “Nancy Avenue” offered a moment to breathe and to feel. Along with the always soul-stirring Alice In Chains’ “Nutshell” and Cold Play’s “Yellow” showcasing the band’s range and reverence for the music that shaped them.

Ole 60(39)

As the final notes of the night approached, Rob Langdon returned to the stage to join Ole 60 for their highly anticipated closer: “Smoke and a Light.”

The rowdy room sang along, bathed in random flying beers and the warm glow of stage lights, still buzzing with the kind of energy only a great live show can create. With Charlotte now in the rearview and the remainder of the Outta My Way Tour ahead, Ole 60 definitely proves that they really aren’t your father’s country band.
