Cypress Hill Gets High with Atlantic City for 4/20!

“Welcome to our Party” – DJ Lord from Cypress Hill

There’s a lot of things to appreciate in the month of April. The weather gets nicer, the flowers begin blooming, and the annual celebration of the best flower takes place. April 20th marks what has become a holiday for Marijuana smokers everywhere!

For many it’s a day to spend with friends or even family, and for Atlantic City, New Jersey; it was a day to get high with some of the greatest stoners/musicians to walk the earth.

Of course we’re talking about Cypress Hill; and they didn’t come alone.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City hosted quite the concert in their arena this past Saturday. Audiences from around the area gathered to witness Souls Of Mischief, Action Bronson, Sublime with Rome, and Cypress Hill perform for 4/20.

Kicking things off for a packed house was the iconic hip-hop group Souls of Mischief. Its roster, consisting of Opio, A-Plu, Phestro, and Tajai, was formed during 1991 in East Oakland, CA.

During this time the group was also involved with the rising success of the underground hip-hop consortium Hieroglyphics.

Drawing comparisons to De La Soul, the collective is most known for their abstract raw style of storytelling.

Taking the stage this evening, the group performed many classics from their discography including ‘That’s when Ya Lost’, and the legendary ‘93 ‘Til Infinity’

This was just a warm up for fans, who got served performances from Action Bronson next. Repping Queens, New York, the chef turned rapper, actor, and shoe designer has built an impressive career for himself over the years.

After breaking his leg kept him out of the kitchen, Bronson decided to pursue music, debuting his first song ‘Industry Shakedown Cypher’ in 2009.

Serving up audible treats for audience members, Bronson and his live band performed tracks such as “Latin Grammys”, ‘C12H16N2’, and of course ‘Baby Blues’. Action Bronson wasn’t the only one serving up treats for 4/20 though, making an appearance off their “Farewell Tour”, Sublime with Rome was the last group to perform before Cypress.

After the unfortunate death of lead singer Bradley Nowell in 1996, Sublime had disbanded for some time. Several years had passed until the group would reform again in 2009 with original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh rallying under a new lead singer; Rome Ramirez.

Now in 2024, Rome is accompanied by Joe Tomino (Drums), Brian Allen (Bass), and Gabriel McNair (Trombone).

Earlier this year, Rome announced the group would go on their final tour together, before disbanding for Rome to pursue a new sound. So this was a truly special experience for the crowd. Taking the stage for 4/20, Sublime performed many covers from the original group such as ‘Doing Time’, and ‘April 29th, 1992 (Miami)’.

The band also performed their own songs as well like “Can you feel it”. Before leaving the stage, Rome made sure to give his flowers to Cypress Hill.

“I grew up listening to Cypress Hill! When I first moved to LA to make something of myself, before I met Sublime, I was introduced to DJ Muggs [From Cypress Hill]. He brought me into his studio and taught me how to make beats, how to use an MPC, so much shit. I have so much love for them.”

Cypress Hill’s influence within the music industry is sometimes underappreciated, but tonight Hard Rock made sure all the love was felt for the legendary group. With blunts ready, or already lit, an eager crowd got to hear the words they’ve been waiting all night for.

“Are you ready to get high with Cypress Hill tonight?”

– Dj Lord

Formed in 1998, the group was the first Latino American hip-hop group to go platinum. Known for their open support for marijuana, they set the blueprint for popularizing the rhetoric for other artists moving forward.

Emerging on the scene with their self-titled first album in 1991, Cypress hill has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, topping charts and influencing music with their unique sound and subject material. The group has cemented themselves as one of the pioneers of West Coast Hip-Hop.

Coming out on stage with a joint the size of a paper towel roll, B Real, Sen Dog, Eric Bobo, and Dj Lord put on an amazing show filled with many “high”-lights.

CypressHill16_JaysonF

Performing an onslaught of their greatest tracks, audience members were blessed with live performances of ‘Dr Greenthumb’, ‘Stoned is the way of the walk’, ‘How I could kill a man’, and many more!

“New Jersey Make some noise for yourselves”

– Dj Lord

From Eric Bobo’s inflatable stoner friend on stage, to the long hits of weed in celebration of 4/20. Tonight was everything a stoner and music fan would expect from a Cypress Hill Show. If you didn’t leave with at least a contact high, you left with an unforgettable night of memories.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say that you’ve done a very good job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super quick for me on Internet explorer. Excellent Blog!

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
