Aries Unleashes Third Single “Wichita Blues” and Expands a World Fans Can Get Lost In

Free shows, clever promo drops, and cinematic music videos connect the dots in a rollout that feels bigger than just music

If you aren’t tuned into Aries yet, you’re missing out. His new track “Wichita Blues” (from an unnamed album that’s release date is TBA) is giving us another taste of what makes him one of the most unique voices in alt-rap right now. Aries is the king of blending vibey melodies with hard-hitting beats, and this song proves it yet again.

Right out of the gate, “Wichita Blues” pulls you in with that hazy guitar riff that almost feels nostalgic. It has a lazy summer night vibe, but there’s still a lot of punch underneath. Aries’ vocals come in smooth, almost nonchalant, but the way he laces his delivery with emotion makes it feel like he’s saying more than the words themselves. That’s what I love about him, he’s mastered the art of sounding effortless while cutting deep. Aries has been criticized in the past for rapping “word salad” but his new stuff is pretty lyrically coherent in my opinion.

So, back to this new single. The chorus is sticky. It’s the type of hook that grabs you once and doesn’t let go. I caught myself humming it hours later without realizing it, it stayed bouncing around my brain for days. It has that Aries trademark where the melodies feel simple at first but there are all these little layers tucked in that make it addictive. (Old school Aries fans know what’s up, this dude has several YouTube videos showing his song construction process and just how many layers go into them.)

Aries is doing what he does best, toeing the line between confidence and vulnerability. “Wichita Blues” feels like it’s about being stuck in that push and pull of wanting to break free but also being tangled up in emotions you can’t quite shake. He doesn’t spell it out, he just lets you vibe with the mood. That’s what makes his music hit harder. You fill in the blanks with your own experiences.

Production wise, this one is tight. The beat flips between dreamy and punchy, giving Aries the perfect canvas. It never overpowers his voice but it keeps driving the whole way through. By the time the track ends, you’re wishing it went on longer.

The rollout for this new era has been just as exciting as the music. Aries has been popping up for surprise free shows in places like California, Toronto, and New York, keeping fans on their toes and proving he’s about more than just the music, he’s about the moment, the hype. He announces these shows cryptically and in a minimalist manner; a plain white background Insta story with GPS coordinates. The date comes later and is often just a few days before the show. On top of that, he mailed out mock pre-roll joint tubes to tease this single, stamped with the “Wichita Blues” name, turning a simple promo into a collector’s item. The music video for this track even picks up where the last one left off, building out a connected storyline. The level of world-building and storytelling with this album so far has been extraordinary, giving fans something bigger than just a track list. It feels like a whole universe – there are reappearing characters and symbolism. I’m a member of his subreddit, and longtime Aries fans are thrilled with the intensified effort of this whole roll out.

If this is the direction he’s taking for the upcoming album, I’m strapped in. “Wichita Blues” is a MOOD. It’s hazy, overthinking, and still feeling like you’ve got a stride through it all.
