Young the Giant with Fitz and the Tantrums in the Heat of the Summer

Summer Tour 2019: Charlotte Summer Chronicles

106.5 The End’s Woody & Wilcox Summer Camp 2019

With the heat of the summer upon us, there are plenty of reasons to stay inside; but with concert season in full swing the desire to get out and catch a show can be irresistible, especially when the lineup is stacked. Out now on their Summer Tour, Young the Giant with Fitz and the Tantrums and for this stop Coin, are bringing the heat with them to each stop.

In town for the day the bands joined local radio station 106.5 The End and their morning show Woody and Wilcox for some day time events, with acoustic performances, interviews, and fan meet and greets as part of their coordination with this concert for their “Summer Camp”.

A day in the heat and humidity of July in North Carolina did not seem to impact the bands in the least and it certainly did not impact attendance.

The venue was a packed house, and the opening set of Coin saw the seats to the lawn full and buzzing with energy.

Like most opening acts Coin are a growing band but certainly had a full representation of enthusiasm from fans that were clearly glad to see them as part of this tour and I would wager they were not disappointed.

That enthusiasm continued through the evening and luckily the heat started to find it’s way down as the groove ramped up with Fitz and the Tantrums. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing them perform then you should change that. Even if you are not an avid listener of their music, chances are that you have heard it. That is because their sound and their stage show is so full of energy that it cannot be denied. The pair of lead vocalist Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs have a captivating on stage chemistry that pours over into the crowd and even casual listeners cannot help but to be entertained.

Continuing the theme of the evening Young The Giant brought the heat back with their set and current single “Heat of the Summer”.

A release from their latest album Mirror Master the song was one of many that brought the crowd into full fledged sing-a-longs with the band’s many hits. Interweaving their high energy tracks with their sometimes slower ones the band crafted a wonderful set of fan favorites and showcased the strength of a really impressive catalog that they have developed over the course of the last few years.

With a lot of stops left for this tour across the U.S. there are plenty of chances left to get out and catch the bands, with the only change being Alice Merton replacing Coin as the opener for the back half. If this night’s performances were an indication as to how the tour will continue then you can rest assured that much like all in attendance this night you will have a great time!

Photographer Josh Gooch is a North Carolina native and a graduate of Appalachian State, Josh Gooch works in education, teaching graphic design at the community college level. Photography became a passion during his college career, and remained a constant addition to the ever-present soundtrack of life. Privileged to have turned an ear to hip-hop at a young age, after developing a love of music from ‘80s radio, Josh found that the revelation of rock music in high school was what led him to really devote serious amounts of attention to music. From there it was that first club show that sparked an addiction to live music and the exposure to various forms of it during the college years, cementing a love of passion and truth in music. Now, with the ability to combine the passions of photography and music, he hopes to continue to develop a creative voice that others appreciate.
