Two nights with Miranda Lambert
Highway Vagabond Tour sets down in homestate of Texas.

Country sweetheart Miranda Lambert brought her Highway Vagabond Tour home to Texas, and was greeted with two sold out crowds and a sea of cowboy hats as far as the eye can see. A country show is like no other; they nearly always sells out, sell more beer than another other show, and the tailgates are full blown chili-and-wing throwdowns. You party before, during, and after the show so hard you need a week to recoup. Looking around at this show, it was definitely going down in this fashion.
This go around singer-songwriter Wade Bowen, an independent country artist, opened the show to his hometown crowd. The West Texas native, who is currently calling New Braunfels home, has been writing and releasing songs since 2002. Bowen’s set played like a greatest hits sprint. Too many great songs to fit in that allotted time, but that just speaks volumes about the kind of songwriter he is. It was a poignant moment of the night when his son came on stage to perform with him; a moment that had the crowd riveted.
His passion for family and music is the fuel that makes the Bowen Family Foundation so successful. The foundation raises money for kids in need and charities chosen by Bowen and his wife. He recalled a moment when a very young Miranda said one day she’d be a star and she’d have him open for her.
He joked with the crowd saying “I wasn’t quite sure how to take that.”
Miranda kept her promise and he sure got the crowd ready for her. Bowen is currently on road with Randy Rogers for their Hold my Beer and Watch This yearly tour. The HMBWT tour resumes tonight in Colorado at Red Rocks opening for Miranda again.
When Miranda finally hit the stage, it was a steamy one billion degrees. Everyone had indulged enough in sweet, malty, fully alcoholic libations and cleared their Woohooing throats enough you could hear the crowd blocks from the venue. She was definitely firing on all cylinders and rocked the house with her southern country-twang. I knew in 2006, sitting in the audience at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, that Miranda Lambert was going to be a big name in country music. Shortly after that she went on tour with George Strait and her star power just kept rising.
She’s had great success with her music, winning multiple CMA and Grammy awards. Recently she poured her heart into this latest album, and it resonates with people and those who have suffered a broken heart. Tonight, letting the crowd know that life happens, divorce happens, and you can go to a dark place. That dark place brought her to the song “Ugly Lights” off of The Weight of These Wings.
Currently Miranda is closing out her American Tour at Red Rocks tonight and tomorrow, and headed on overseas to share her shitkicking boots and glamour.
