Travis Tritt welcomes his Country Club members to the Theater at Westbury in Westbury, NY

The last time Travis Tritt paid a visit to his Long Island Country Club fans was back in 2012, so the torrential rains and thunderstorms that dowsed the Island on April 6 were not going to keep his fans from coming to see him that evening. By the time the doors were set to open at the NYCB Theater at Westbury in Westbury, NY, blue skies appeared and little by little, people started lining up outside the theater eager to see the show.

Fan entered the venue as the friendly staff made them aware that there was no opening act this evening and Mr. Tritt would play a two-hour set with no intermission. This excited his fans as they mingled in the lobby, had a drink or two and talked with other attendees about shows they have seen of his in the past.

As everyone took their seats, the lights slowly dimmed while an announcement over the PA system, narrated by Larry The Cable Guy, asked the audience not to throw quarters during the performance tonight, but in the funny fashion that only Larry could convey; he did say it was okay to throw paper money, and said he wanted everyone to have a good time. And a good time they were ready for as the stage lights lit and the band took the stage, soon followed by Tritt himself and a roar of cheering erupted.

Rocking from the very start, everyone was bopping along to the beat. After the first few songs Tritt welcomed the audience and thanked them for coming out to see him and guaranteed them all they would have a good time, which by the look and sound of it they already were. They had played for them, “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “The Whisky Ain’t Workin’,” “Ten Foot Tall and Bulletproof,” and even a cover of the Eagle’s song “Take It Easy.”

Then it was time to take it down in tempo; the band left the stage and Tritt was given a chair to sit on as he played the next few songs with his acoustic guitar. One of those songs was a tribute to Merle Haggard, who had passed away exactly one year ago the day of the show. He paid tribute with a song written by Vince Gill, “Lost In A World Without Haggard.” Tt was very touching, but soon after he brought the spirits back up high with his classic song “Anymore.”

The band, now back on stage with Tritt, had the tempo back in high gear. Fans were up at their seats dancing and singing along to songs such as, “Southbound Train,” “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde,” “Love Of A Woman” as well as classic chart topping hits “Here’s A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)” and “Country Club.” Tritt informed fans after the song “Country Club,” where he let them sing one of the choruses alone, “You are all certified Travis Tritt Country Club members now!” After which there were deafening cheers of gratitude from his fans.

As Tritt promised early on in the show, everyone clearly had a great time. Tritt put on a fabulous show, he was full of energy, his vocals were as warm and inviting as ever, and his guitar playing was superb. Tritt was joined by a group of well-seasoned musicians who complimented his southern rock/country influences perfectly. He was fun and very interactive with his fans. As an aggressively touring musician, he lives the road and will be making his way all around the United States and Canada during this year so be sure not to miss one of his shows.
