The Used Deliver An Epic Fan Fueled Setlist in Philadelphia
The Used North American Tour 2020
The legendary The Used spent 2019 bidding farewell to Vans Warped Tour and headlining the Rockstar Disrupt Festival. After a few months off, the band has kicked it into high gear. Currently on a North American Tour, The Used recently announced they’ll be releasing their highly anticipated eighth full-length Studio album titled “Heartwork” on April 24th. The new record is available for pre-order now HERE.
“Heartwork” is led by singles “Paradise Lost, A Poem By John Milton” and “Blow Me” ft Jason Aalon Butler of Fever 333.
The Used describes the album as follows “The new album plays on the emotions, the sincerity, and the vulnerability of the first record and In Love and Death, with a little bit of the flair from Lies for the Liars. We can’t wait for you to hear it.”
The night kicked off with Seattle rock band Dragged Under. The band took to the stage with explosive energy and received quite the reception from the Philadelphia crowd, not an easy city to win over by any means.
The active rock group recently released their debut album “The World Is In Your Way” on January 17th via Pretty Good Records.
The bands set featured 7 songs from that record as well as a cover of Rise Against’s “State of The Union”.
Emo music legends The Used took to the stage at around 9 pm, Bert McCraken and company are a band I’ve seen many times over the years. They never disappoint, are always sounding top-notch, and will deliver a fast-paced, high energy performance no matter if it’s a Saturday or a Tuesday. They always bring it.
This tour is particularly special, as the band is playing intimate shows focused on the most hardcore of fans in each city. To put things in perspective they played amphitheaters last summer so this is a great chance to catch them old school club style.
As singer Bert McCraken told the crowd “This show is special, nobody can tell us what to play tonight, we play what we want”.
The band’s production is absolutely stunning on this run. The smaller stages have not hurt that element of the Used whatsoever.
In fact, the set is beautifully lit with pinks, purples and these magnificent blues.
The band’s backdrop goes perfectly along with the Nintendo controller over the amp and the band’s energy is top-notch.
Vocalist McCraken sounds the best he has in years in my opinion and he really shines on the new track “Blow Me” and classic cuts like “Buried Myself Alive” and “A Box Full of Sharp Objects”.
The Philadelphia crowd was also treated to a surprise when Saxl Rose joined the band for the classic “All That I’ve Got” also featuring the crowd belting the chorus at the top of their lungs.
The Used delivered a 15 song setlist, featuring every song a hardcore fan of the band would absolutely dream of hearing. They did so sounding great and having fun and that energy was felt throughout the entire crowd.
Unfortunately, the tour is almost at the end with just a few dates remaining, hopefully you got to catch this rare and intimate performance. If not feel free to live vicariously through this review and photo gallery. Check out the remaining dates below!
