The Governors Ball Announces Massive 2018 LineUp

The Governors Ball 2018 Lineup Announced

The annual New York City Governors ball line-up has been announced and it doesn’t disappoint! The massive 3 day festival on New York’s Randall’s Island Park will take place June 1st through the 3rd. This year’s line up includes Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, The Menzingers, Khalid, Halsey, The Gaslight Anthem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jack White, Eminem and many more including an unannounced surprise guest!

Eminem Ft Beyonce – “Walk on Water”

One act I’m thrilled to see this year is Eminem. The Detroit rapper will make his debut to the Governors Ball stage and I think this was a great move for the festival. Eminem put out his latest album Revival on December 15th, 2017 and has already sparked some serious controversy surrounding his political opinions. The Governors Ball will be a great outlet for Em to let loose. Expect a raw, fury based show out of the rapper and I’m hoping for the possibility of a surprise guest like Beyonce or Dr. Dre because it is NYC… anything is possible!

Halsey – “Bad at Love”

Another strong move for the festival is “Bad At Love” singer Halsey. This girl has been all over this year. Halsey made her way through 2017 stomping all over the Top 40 radio charts. She released her brand new album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom in June 2017 and never looked back. I expect she will bring a unique and fun filled show to the Governors Ball stage and I suspect maybe even a few big name guests… like G-Eazy?!

The Gaslight Anthem – “The 59 Sound”

In a surprising yet amazing move by the festival, they somehow managed to answer the prayers of Gaslight Anthem fans around the world. That’s right! You read that right: The Gaslight Anthem will end their hiatus at least momentarily to perform the band’s 2009 album The ‘59 Sound. Not only does this make the festival a little more awesome, it brings hope to fans of more dates and dare I say maybe a new album?

I truly feel the line-up is a really solid one, however it’s not perfect in my opinion. I strongly feel there’s some missed opportunity within the lineup and I myself am a little surprised that some acts I thought were sure to be a part of it, well they’re not. So let’s take a look at those I think could have really filled out the line up.

Portugal. The Man – “Feel it Still”

Portugal. The Man would have without a doubt been perfect for this line up, this band brings something so special not only within their music but also within their live show. The band has simply been on fire for the majority of 2017, gaining mainstream radio airplay and a ton of sold out shows across the U.S. To me, this was a no brainer. Governors Ball was a festival made for them and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a tad disappointed. I won’t hold my breath but the show is still far enough away, maybe the music gods will answer my prayers.

The Weeknd – “I Feel it Coming”

What can I say, I really feel like The Weeknd should be on this. As we know now with the announcement of Coachella’s lineup, which features Eminem and The Weeknd and a ton of disappointment, I feel like the addition of The Weeknd to The Governors Ball lineup would have been the move to take the entire festival to a whole new level. The Weeknd has been huge musically all year and his shows are some of the most sought out tickets in Hip Hop and R&B. Having him on board with Eminem and new comer Khalid would have been a strong hip hop presence to the festival. I mean come on, it’s New York City!

Either way the festival lineup proves to be an insanely strong contender for one of the top music festivals this summer in my opinion. It certainly won’t stop me from attending and I think there’s plenty of reasons to make your way to NYC for this. My list of must see acts include Eminem, Halsey, Damian Marley, Jack White, Khalid, Travis Scott and Jay Electronica.

Aside from music, The Governors Ball features tons of festivities for attendees including a variety of food trucks, photo booths, mini golf, a hair braiding bar, and tons of different fan experience packages, which are available when purchasing tickets. This is what really helps to shape the entire experience for festival goers. I can tell you first hand it’s really amazing, and one thing I really admire about the festival is they don’t capitalize on fans dehydration. I feel it’s important to mention the festival actually brings in trucks filled with drinking water for fans at no charge. I applaud this effort, which makes the festival that much safer for music lovers!

In case this is your first time hearing about the festival, here’s a little info on how it began.

Governors Ball began in 2011 as just a one day show at New York’s Governors Island with just 12 acts. Due to the festivals success, 2012 would become a two day festival and mark the move to Randall’s Island with acts including Beck, Kid Cudi and Modest Mouse. The festival quickly became known for its diverse lineup and a festival for MUSIC FANS! The festival was widely acclaimed due to the fact it had almost 30 performers and no overlapping sets giving festival goers a chance to experience all the music they came for. In 2013 the festival exploded into a three-day festival, bringing in over the top headliners Kanye West, Gun’s N Roses and Kings of Leon. This would be the year Governors Ball made its mark as one of the top music festivals on the East Coast of the U.S! The Governors Ball features tons of festivities for festival attendees including a variety of food trucks, photo booths, mini golf, a hair braiding bar, craft beer, and tons of different fan experience packages are available when purchasing tickets.

Past line-ups also include Tool, Lorde, Chance the Rapper, Wu-Tang Clan, Wiz Khalifa, Logic, The Killers and many more!!!
