The Glorious Sons Start A War In Washington, DC

Celebrating Their Latest Album A War On Everything The Glorious Sons Visit The 9:30 Club

This group from Kingston, Ontario has been rocking out and making their name known for the past few years and now more than ever are getting the attention they deserve. What’s up everyone, it’s your friend Derek a.k.a The Photographic Ginger back at it again. When I learned that The Glorious Sons were coming to the famous 9:30 Club, I knew I had to be there. After seeing them open for Welshly Arms a few years back I was blown away by their energy and their catchy rock songs that blend so well into today’s musical world. So let’s get to it, shall we?

Starting off the night and amping up the crowd was an artist from New York by the name of Des Rocs, one that awhile back was having rehearsals in a butcher shop in New York and is now traveling the country bringing everyone this high energy performance.

Anytime someone rocks a jacket with tassels, you know it’s about to rock.

He and his band brought this infectious energy through songs such as “Living Proof” and “Slo” that just truly felt electrifying. Pair that energy with guitar-shredding behind the back and a drummer standing and walking over his kit while playing and you’ve got one hell of an opening act.

Just after ten o’clock, it was time to crank the dial to eleven. The stage was set and the lights went down as we heard this speech come over the speakers that sounded like it was recorded many years ago but yet spoke of ongoing issues in society and politics. Following that The Glorious Sons took to the stage and we were immediately comforted while rocking out to the sounds of “Everything Is Alright”.

This was a show that proved how strong their fan base was as throughout almost every song the audience sang along with them. This was especially true with songs “Oh Mama” and “S.O.S”. The latter of which has been stuck in my head and has been played multiple times a month in my music library since I first heard it a couple years ago.

The awesome thing about a Glorious Sons concert is that there are many moments that feel like it’s the finale but it’s not, it’s just the constant energy this group brings. It was even more exciting to know that the setlist changes almost completely every single night, so they are giving you back that moment of genuine surprise when your favorite song plays.

Speaking of which, lead singer Brett Emmons has a favorite song off of their latest album and it’s called “A Funny Thing Happened”, a song that starts slow then kicks into overdrive which is perfect for a live performance.

I’d be kicking myself if I didn’t mention the incredible solo from lead guitarist Chris Koster. As the rest of the band stepped off stage to take a short break, he blew our minds with a cover of “Love Is A Battlefield” with just his guitar.

Oh yea, and there was also an incredible jam session thanks to the song “The Union” that gave us a harmonica treat from Brett, guitar-shredding, and a drumbeat that pulsed throughout the entire room.

To close out the night they hit us with the title song off their new album “A War On Everything” which slowed things down a bit and gave you that great swaying moment at any concert, but before long we were rocking out again to “Closer To The Sky”, a song that got everyone going so hard that Brett broke his own mic stand. Finally to end a wonderful night of music they played what is arguably their best ballad off the new album and possibly of their entire career… “Pink Motel”.

By now you’re probably regretting not making it out to see these guys but if you have the chance during the rest of their tour make sure to go see them. The U.S. leg of this tour runs through February before picking up and returning to Canada. You’ll also find them at a few festivals this summer as well. If you do happen to make it out, be sure to download their app TGS Union which allows you to collect digital stamps at each show to unlock rewards and hear an exclusive live recording from each show on the tour.
