Run the World Tour

Photos by Brian Twitty

We checked in with RTJ a few weeks ago in Raleigh at The Ritz. This time they were on Charlotte soil with a new opening act, Leroy Shingu aka Well$.

The hometown (Charlotte, NC) rapper known for releasing an EP, $say La V, that peaked at #5 on the Bandcamp charts, and eventually became the most downloaded album in the CLT area.

The Queen City native gave a slamming opening set, priming the insane crowd for the main act.

Killer Mike and El-P, also known as Run the Jewels, played to a packed house and judging by the social media views was one of the hypest shows of the year so far at Fillmore NC. From picking up new fans to reminding the old why they stuck around, RTJ is sure to be on everyone’s end-of-the-year list.

Thanks to places like the Fillmore, Charlotte has been a hotbed for putting on can’t-miss shows in the hip-hop scene; RTJ is a perfect example!

Some fun tidbits:

  • The band brought out VIP this night so full building was general admission

  • They start a European tour in a few weeks

  • Tomorrow night you can watch them perform on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon 11:35/10:35c on NBC

  • Zach De la Rocha was still not spotted in the crowd or on the stage

  • Politically charged banter was on hand again tonight and every night on this tour

It’s never too late to jump on the RTJ train, but take our word and grab a seat because good music + a killer live show is for everyone. Lucky for you, they’ll be on tour most of the Spring. Unlucky for you, unless you live in Europe, is that they’ll be overseas, taking the UK and surrounding areas by storm. They’ll make a festival run in the middle of summer and more often than not, an artists festival performance is always a good time. Check out tour dates below!
