Going to be a Smash Hit:

Half Waif – Lavender

Cascine’s own Half Waif, otherwise known as Nandi Rose Plunkett, has returned to the airwaves, softer, tougher, and more ethereal than ever. With a new single from her upcoming release Lavender, out April 27th, “Keep It Out” is an ode to the parts of life we tend to overshadow. At first glance, themes of aging, decay, and growth, both inside and out of our relationships with others, may seem to fit the canon of indie songwriting, Half Waif’s approach is a bit more cynical, and a bit more reflective. Regardless, Lavender is quickly taking up space on my year end list… Too soon?

In Case You Missed It:

Long Neck – Will This Do?

In case you’ve not been paying attention to our social media as of late, I have quite literally listened to nothing EXCEPT the newest from Jersey’s Long Neck (Tiny Engines). Confident vocals, heavenly melodies, and honest, like actually honest, lyrics set Long Neck apart from others, and it doesn’t hurt that their acoustic songs are just as good as their straight up rock tracks. Though Long Neck is comprised solely of Lily Mastrodimos, her gusto as a front person and raw talent as an artist leaves no room other contributors; she’s got this thing under control. Can I also admit that if I were somehow in a band, I’d cover the hell out of “Elizabeth.” What a SONG. My favorite tracks: “Elizabeth,” “Milky Way,” “Lichen,” “Rosy,” and honestly, ok, let’s just say the ENTIRE album, yeesh.
