New to the Airwaves – Albums Out This Week

Summer is here! If you’re like me, you’re retreating back into the dark corners of your apartment and dreaming of brisker days; if you’re like the rest of the population and are NOT a recluse, you’re probably loving every second of the sunshine and greenery. Nevertheless, Summer is always super cool thanks to festivals, tour announcements, and happier playlists (unless, again, you are me)! This week’s arrivals are sure to find homes on many a playlist, especially with Father John Misty, Ghost, and The 1975 dropping full-lengths.

This week we’ve got some much anticipated arrivals that has us tapping our toes, crossing our arms, and screeching, “Finally!” We’re sure you can see which ones we think you should grab and which ones we think may deserve a pass… Dive in at your own risk, and let’s hear your picks!

James Bay  : Electric Light

Three-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated and BRIT Award-winning multi-platinum singer-songwriter James Bay has some new jams coming your way! Honestly, who tore this dudes heart out? Even if he’s single, or in love right this moment, his angelic timbre lends for an oddity of Mr. Bay vocalizing what inner torment sounds like in notes sung softly over tracks. The lyrical weight of track “Us” where we hear “I believe in something, I believe enough, in us,” hits you somewhere deep and unexplainable. Turning simplistic satin breathes to ballads of the summer. Such as his steamy reverb in “Wild Love,” an acoustic portion of the cut sounds like he was recording old-school in a bathroom steaming up mirrors. “Pink Lemonade” is pretty layered and unlike anything Bay has thrown at us before. Very Eurotrash and poppy, less guitar-heavy, though definitely a new but favorable direction. Notes: Emotive overload – I’ve been in a monogamous loving relationship for 13 years now, and this new album is leaving me crying for an imaginary love that did me dirty and I can’t figure how to live without them now. This album will be on repeat throughout the summer. ELECTRIC LIGHT came out this past Friday, are you digging it?

**Have an album coming out soon we should feature? Let us know! Indie, Regional, National – as long as you aren’t recording on an iPhone, hit us up! CD RELEASE SHOWS are our jam!!
