Carly Rae Jepsen with Phoebe Ryan stop in Charlotte

The Fillmore Charlotte

Carly Rae Jepsen hit the national radar with “Call Me Maybe” back in 2012 so it’s a surprise that she’s not an even bigger pop star by now. The 33-year-old Canadian singer brings a party every time she hits the stage. For 22 songs at Charlotte’s Fillmore, she got people moving, singing along and having a great time. It’s what keeps her fans coming back every time she’s in town. Jepsen’s a fantastic performer – whether it’s in front of 1,000+ fans at a Queen City music venue or in front of millions watching her perform the national anthem in this same city a few months ago.

While there were choreographed moments during Jepsen’s performance, a good bit of it was unbridled fun and Jepsen never appeared to slow down. She danced her way around the stage for the entire 90-minutes of her show, interacted with the crowd and sang plenty of fan favorites mixed with elements of ‘80s pop, rock and disco. If anyone forgot they were at a party, confetti canons filled the air to remind them at the end of her three-song encore.

If Phoebe Ryan isn’t on your radar yet, keep an ear out. The 28-year-old singer has written songs for Britney Spears, Melanie Martinez, All Time Low, Wyclef Jean and Zara Larsson while being featured on songs by The Chainsmokers and Tritonal. Her bright style first shone through on her 2015 single, “Shine,” but it was her song “Ring” that truly showed her vocal range to the Charlotte crowd on Wednesday night.
