BØRNS Glitter Nikes and Seeing Stars
BØRNS at The Greek Theatre in LA
On a cool Wednesday night, BØRNS took the stage at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This show was one of the last of his 2018 tour dates, promoting the album Blue Madonna, released by Interscope Records, that came out earlier this year.
The stage, with rainbow holographic stairs and a matching holographic piano, paired well with Garrett Borns’ dreamy vocals, belting out old favorites from his debut album Dopamine as well as songs off the new album.
The opener, Twin Shadow, a musician based in Los Angeles, started the night off with his chill, synth-pop songs.
The crowd bounced to songs from his new album Coen, with songs like “Saturday” and “Brace”.
BØRNS took to the stage next. Donned in a bedazzled tour windbreaker and matching shorts with glittery Nike sneakers, he opened with “Past Lives”. Following that, he played a few songs off his new album, including the title track “Blue Madonna” and “Supernatural”.
For the live rendition of “Bye-bye Darling”, BØRNS sat at the holographic-esque piano, transitioning smoothly to the a cover of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John.
Bringing up the tempo a bit, he moves to the second Elton John cover of the night, a breathy cover of “Bennie and the Jets”, with most of the crowd singing along.
Another notable moment was later in the set, when BØRNS asked the crowd to turn on their phone flashlights for a slowed down version of the song “Seeing Stars”. During this, a fan from the pit handed him a bouquet of sunflowers, which he placed on the piano after the song.
The crowd sang loudly during some old hits like “American Money”, which included an electric guitar bridge, and “10,000 Emerald Pools”, where BØRNS played guitar. He thanked the crowd for being there on a Wednesday night and for bringing good energy to the night.
He finishes his set, ending on “Sweet Emotion”. For the encore, the entire audience sang along to his most popular song, smash-hit “Electric Love”.
BØRNS has three more upcoming tour dates in southern California before he heads to Mexico for the last show of his 2018 tour.
