ATTENTION ATTENTION! Shinedown heats up Fayetteville, NC

ATTENTION ATTENTION! Tour:
Now that we have your attention, let’s get rocking! Chances are you’re familiar with at least one of their thirteen Number #1 singles or maybe you own one of the ten million records sold (I know we do). What you may not be aware of however is that Shinedown actually began when lead singer Brent Smith was the only one kept by his record label when his previous band Dreve was dropped. From this, they took Smith and helped to bring in additional band members which would become Shinedown. Now consisting of lead singer Brent Smith, guitarist Zach Myers, bassist Eric Bass and drummer Barry Kerch they make up one of the top rock bands the world has to offer. Blending edgy and thought out lyrics with punch-to-the face guitar riffs and rhythms, they continue to prove their strength.
Shortly after wrapping up a co-headlining tour with Five Finger Death Punch, they have now embarked on the first leg of their own headlining tour in promotion of their latest album in which the ATTENTION ATTENTION World Tour is named after. We jumped in at the second stop on tour at the Crown Complex Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC to experience a night of rock.
Upon arrival, there were plenty of people eagerly waiting to get into the venue and out of the cold. Many were there early in order to catch the opening act of the evening which came all the way from across the Atlantic, the band we speak of was Asking Alexandria. As the seats filled up the band took to the stage and immediately busted into Fayetteville’s eardrums and took us with them “Into The Fire”. The fist pumps and head banging commenced. Over the course of their time on stage, they took us through a variety of hits from new to old with lead singer Danny Worsnop at the wheel. Along with Worsnop was Ben Bruce (lead guitarist and vocals), James Cassells (drums), Cameron Liddell (rhythm and lead guitar), and Sam Bettley (bass guitar).
Some of the stand out moments from their set included an intimate moment in which Worsnop guided the fans to raise their cell phones or lighters as he introduced their next song titled “Vultures”. The strong vocals of Worsnop shined throughout the entire set which also provided some insanely impressive vibratos.
Following them was a band from California that’s been in the rock game for quite a while and maybe you’ll know them by the first thing we heard in their set… “Cut my life into pieces”. That’s right, Papa Roach is along for this leg of the tour creating mosh pits and madness with some of their newest songs off their latest album ‘Who Do You Trust’ as well as their greatest hits. Songs like “Between Angels and Insects” found lead singer Jacoby Shaddix running through the crowd, while another crowd favorite “Scars” had the entire coliseum singing along.
After a few more hit songs and plenty of crowd energy, they closed out their set with “Born For Greatness” which got Fayetteville rocking as the audience jumped around in the pit and in their seats.
Upon exiting the stage a curtain fell that added some secrecy as the crew prepared for the main event with Shinedown. It wasn’t long before the fans were greeted by a robotic voice welcoming them to the show and preparing them for the show to begin shortly. Soon after lights moved across the stage as the music kicked in, and when we say kicked we mean a kick that you feel through your whole body.
A loud explosion and a burst of flames dropped the curtain and we were in high gear. Throwing us into the world of Shinedown was the song “Devil” off their latest album ‘ATTENTION ATTENTION’. From new to old they switched into an older song titled “Diamond Eyes” which got the band running back and forth across the stage pumping up the crowd.
Fans closest to the barricade had moments when they could shake hands with lead singer Brent, as well as the photographers and staff in the pit as he took time to fist bump and shake hands with those helping to bring the event to life.
As the energy continued to grow “Enemies” cranked up the heat as everyone except for drummer Barry Kerch moved to the end of the extended stage before the stage surrounded Barry with pyro and brought plenty of warmth to a chilly North Carolina evening. With crowd surfing and mosh pits occurring during songs like “Bully”, it was quite the contrast when songs like “Get Up” found a way to bring a moment of tranquility to a rock concert.
It is immediately clear anytime you attend a Shinedown concert that this band of four puts their heart into every moment and they truly want you to have a great time. In the words of Brent Smith, “Rock and Roll isn’t a genre, it’s a way of life. It welcomes everybody in.” and that was very clear as you would look around and see fans of all ages, genders, and ethnicities.
Continuing through the night they took time to bring a bit of a calmer tone to their rock show as the entire band joined together at the end of the extended stage for a more acoustic portion of the show. Brent mentioned that he was letting Eric chose different songs each night a bit off script, the song chosen for this night was off the album ‘Threat To Survival’ titled “Misfits”.
After announcing what song they would be playing the crowd went quiet as the band then joked “man they turned on us real quick” and Eric remedied the situation by joking around and saying “calm down, you’ll hear Simple Man before you leave” which got the crowd excited and laughing.
They took the time to play a few songs in this format including “How Did You Love”, “Simple Man”, “45” and “Second Chance” the last of which found the entire complex shining bright like the stars as cell phone lights and lighters filled the area once again.
Before saying goodbye to Fayetteville they went out swinging with heavy hitters such as “Cut The Cord” and “Sound Of Madness” before ending with the final track off the tour focused album which is called “Brilliant”.
Above all this was a show full of insane amounts of energy and dedicated fans that just love music and to have a good time. You can catch Shinedown on tour through the Winter and into Summer as they have plenty of shows on the books. Make sure to head over to your favorite events site and buy tickets now.
