Around Town: The Local Beat #14
The Local Beat #14
Hello music lovers! Welcome to this week’s edition of The Local Beat. The staff here at Shutter 16 is committed to bringing you all the latest information on the local and indie music scene, including must-see shows, exclusive interviews, new music, reviews, and tons more. Here in the Carolinas, we are lucky enough to live in an area where the local music scene is not only thriving but growing by leaps and bounds. The Local Beat is our way of showcasing the amazing talent right here in our own backyards. So let’s get to it.
This Week’s Rising Star
This week’s rising star honors go to one of the hottest young bands in the area, Brooke Lee & the 7 Days Band. The band got their start back in 2016 with the help of music instructor and studio owner Karl Gunther and played their very first show as teens at the Laketown Tavern in Cornelius. With a great mix of classic rock, pop, and country covers songs, the band quickly became known as “the” party band of Lake Norman, full of energy and rocking the house each and every time they took the stage. Everything about the band seems to ooze excitement right down to the 45 rpm adapter that graces the band’s backdrop. When word got out a few months back that I was looking to spotlight local bands, lead vocalist Brooke LaRotunda reached out to me about the 7 Days Band and to set up an interview. We had a lovely Sunday morning chat even though she was up late at a gig the night before.
Since the interview, I’m happy to report that major things have been happening for Brooke and the 7 Days Band. Brooke’s poignant vocals are a perfect fit for country music and she headed to Nashville to work with legendary songwriter Bruce Burch and recording artist Kelly Costner. Now known as Brooke Lee & the 7 Days Band, the band is about to write an entirely new chapter of their career. Fresh off a stellar performance at this year’s Taste of Charlotte, they have a slew of gigs lined up including this Saturday, July 13th at Boat Yard Eats in Cornelius where they will be performing songs from Brooke’s new Nashville EP. This young band is definitely on the rise so don’t miss your chance to check them out and see what they’re all about. You can listen to the full interview with Brooke below.

Tour Bus Trivia
Tour Bus Trivia is a fun segment during which we here at Shutter 16 get to ask fun questions from one of our local artists. It’s kind of like a quiz show, except the questions are easy and often silly, and unfortunately, there are no prizes. For this week’s installment, Brooke LaRotunda of Brooke Lee & the 7 Days Band was kind enough to play along. Take a quick listen to find out what she had to say.
If your band would like to be considered for inclusion in The Local Beat or if you have a show, music news, or a new release you’d like us to review, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can reach out to our man, or in this case, woman on the scene, photojournalist Kris Engelhart at email@example.com. If you’re at a show don’t forget to tag those pics with #twitfromthepit so we can all share the local love.
