5 Seconds To Summer and The Aces Close Out Summer Season at PNC Music Pavilion
Hurricane Florence didn’t win this time!
The band known as 5SOS(Capitol Records) is currently on their North American headlining Meet You There Tour, in support of their latest album Youngblood. They were set to play here earlier last week but due to Hurricane Florence, this was the night we got to dance with ‘em. It seems that some of the fans lost the memo but the ones that did, came to the party.
Opening the concert was The Aces (Red Bull Records), an indie band from Utah.
The all-female quartet played some fun electro-pop songs for us, including “Stuck” off of their debut full-length album When My Heart Felt Volcanic.
Along with their newest single “Last One”, the short set showcased their powerful vocals, family-oriented shenanigans, and true talent. We cannot wait to revisit the band when they undoubtedly hit the road on their own headlining tour sometime next year.
After the set, 5SOS came out and dipped directly into their hit “Babylon,” and “Talk Fast”, while having each member talk after every couple of songs. The interaction with their screaming fans was endearing.
Throughout the performance, the high energy was kept with a smash-hit packed setlist.
Their top five played tracks on Spotify are as follows:
Youngblood (381,397,981 spins)
Valentine (21,215,624 spins)
Want You Back (77,757,385 spins)
Lie To Me (15,408,721 spins)
Ghost of You (13,393,770 spins)
And to the faithful fans in the crowd, we heard each of these sprinkled throughout the set, including the single for their latest video, directed by Andy DeLuca (Kendrick Lamar, Wolf Alice), “Valentine”. The visual has already has amassed close to 2 million views. When drummer Ashton Irwin spoke about taking on the director role for the video he said:
“Collaboration has always been one of the key most important things about 5 Seconds Of Summer since day one and co-directing the video with Andy was an incredible and very fluid experience. There are a few things we wanted to capture; the androgyny and the feminine element of the way Luke performs as well as the dark romance of the song. This video is us taking something into our own hands and attempting to be a part of every single detail of what we create. We hope you enjoy it and I’m looking forward to making many more.”
As we said goodbye to our summer concert season, we were also excited to get over Florence with a jam-filled performance, dancing, and NO RAIN; we very much look forward to all of Fall concert seasons wonderment.
The 25-city Meet You There Tour will conclude with a show at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre on October 12th.
