311 celebrates new album MOSAIC with The Unity Tour 2017

311 celebrates new album MOSAIC with The Unity Tour 2017

311 is back on the road for the 18th consecutive summer tour. This year’s The Unity Tour 2017 includes special guests New Politics and The Stints with Passafire on select dates.

Openers, for the Charlotte date, Passafire, (Easy Star Records/FlameGuy Records/LAW Records) who are touring on their new album Longshot, fall right into the great reggae genre laden line-up of this tour. The sounds are a bit more of a progressive progressive rock with some very toned down pop ballad tones and very vocal and guitar heavy, which is unusual for the straight-laced reggaeton most are used to, and a touch more dramatic as well. Having never been introduced to their great music, it is something to get excited about seeing live.

The party-anthem tunes keep going as you go further into the new album. Very subtle double vocals and a realness to the lyrics that draw you in instantly. For fans of Incubus, Alient Ant Farm, and Jimmy’s Chicken Shack, Passafire are your new favorite band waiting to be discovered. A great primer to the next band of the line-up..

Up next: Danish rock band New Politics (DCD2). Their latest single “One of Us” is getting a lot of airplay and has yet to be connected to a new album, but still highly anticipated since their last release Vikings in 2015. This band is more of a party rock band with uplifting lyrics and poppy shake your hips kind of music. I’m a bit in  inbetween about how these fit. Here’s the scenario: you start with the reggae and get a bit chilled out, listen to New Politics to get super happy and dancy, and then you bring in the big guns to round out the tour.

311 will make a tour stop in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre on July 26th, and frankly we can’t wait! Shutter 16 Magazine will be there to capture the energy and creativity that 311 displays every year. They are touring in support of their most recent album release, MOSAIC. MOSAIC is 311’s 12th studio album and has a track listing of 17 songs, with its current single, “Too Much to Think.” The cover artwork for the album was created using 10,000 photos submitted by fans, hence the album title.  You can view all the art here.

MOSAIC is the fifth 311 album to gain the #6  slot on the Billboard Top 200 Albums. The band is including at least half of the album on its setlist for the Unity Tour 2017, so be sure to check out the new music before you come rock out on the Unity Tour 2017. The sound has changed a little bit to show just how long these guys have been doing this. It’s a leaning to the more alternative rock sound.

311

Prepare for a lot of hand clapping, and ass shaking. In addition to the new songs, 311 will be performing major hits from the past that has resonated with 311 fans across two decades. And yes to the rabid Nick Hexum fans – he still has his glorious blonde hair and I hear iced tips are back in style so watch out! All jokes aside, get prepped for a tour with music veterans who know how to show you a good time, and do not skimp on talent.
